Guest Rob Halligan Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 The mobile web won't be real to me until I can get all my IE Favorites synced to my phone. Over the past 3 years, I've posted elsewhere on my issue and searched the internet endlessly but can't figure out why folders of Favorites within other folders won't show up in PIE. I've synced XP ActiveSync to WM2003 Smartphone and to WM5 Smartphone . I've synced Vista Mobile Device Center to WM6 Standard. I've copy-pasted Favorites and Mobile Favorites to various directories. In none of these scenarios have I had my folders of Favorites that are within other folders of Favorites show up or function. From PIE, going to Favorites I find my my Content folder has synced with all it's contents. But the Favorites/Content/Magazines folder is missing. Mobile Device Center only syncs embedded folders 1 folder deep. (I see that Mobile Device Center only syncs 700 Mobile Favorites rather than all 4000 of my Mobile Favorites.) If I copy all 4000 Favorites (or Mobile Favorites) to the Favorites directory on the phone, PIE ignores the folders-within-folders such as the Magazine folder. If I copy my Favorites (or Mobile Favorites) to another directory, PIE won't open the Favorites. Urrrgh. Either my Smartphone(s) or I am being dumb here. If anyone has a solution, work-around, or third party app to allow me access to my Favorites on my phone, I'd be much-appreciative.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I've often pondered writing something to sync PC and mobile contacts to an online (MoDaCo) 'cloud'. You add a favourite on your PC, it gets seamlessly uploaded to said cloud, device automatically picks it up too... and the same in reverse. Would be cool no? P

But it would be much cooler for Windows Mobile Standard to function as one would expect it to. Does anyone know if Windows Mobile doesn't support folders within folders in the Mobile Favorites? Can Opera import my Favorites? Anything to get this to work?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Pocket IE doesn't support folders in folders. Opera CAN import IE favorites, but it'll only import what's synced over, i.e. if only the base level folder is synced, it won't help. I also don't know whether Opera will support folders in folders. P

Now, if u use Opera (Opera 9.5b and OperaMini) u can have all your favourites in sync. They get sync'd whenever either browser connects to the internet. Thats how I do it. And even tho OM is "just" a java-app, it is pretty damn amazingĀ :( But no, Opera doesnt do folders in folders either. Its not a matter of not syncing, its a matter of not even being able to create folders in the opera mini folder that is automatically sync'ed.. .-ombre-. Edited January 4, 2008 by ombre33

I don't get why this folder-in-folder thing is such a conundrum. << The mobile web won't be real to me until I can get all my IE Favorites synced to my phone. >>
Guest Rob Halligan Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I manually went in and moved all the folders in my computer's Mobile Favorites so they aren't more than one deep. What was a Magazines folder within a Content folder is now in Mobile Favorites top level as Content-Magazines. Vista's Mobile Device Center syncs that static list to WM6. That seems the most practical work-around. At least I have the Favorites with me in PIE in an order that is similar to my IE taxonomy.....
