Guest Tothotspur Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 well after about 2 months i am sad to say that i am nearly convinced that i will get rid of the kaiser. The size and weight is just getting to me and the new touch cruise looks very good. is anybody else finding it a bit too big and heavy? how much can i expect for a mint condition vario 3?
Guest 246810 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 well after about 2 months i am sad to say that i am nearly convinced that i will get rid of the kaiser. The size and weight is just getting to me and the new touch cruise looks very good. is anybody else finding it a bit too big and heavy? how much can i expect for a mint condition vario 3? The Kaiser does seem a bit chunky. A part of me thinks I ought to have waited for the Touch Dual, but it doesn't have wifi and integrated GPS. Overall, I think the Kaisers chunky size is warranted by the numerous functions and facilities it incooporates As for how much you could expect to sell it for, who knows. By the way, did you buy the Kaiser on Contract, and through T Mobile by the way? If you did, they may be a chance for you to get an early upgrade by complaining about a defect of the device, if there are any. I originally had the Vario II for a few weeks, and had my device exchanged for a £30 more by numerous complaining and whining that the Vario II kept hanging up on me. I managed to get through to the assistant of the Customer services director of the UK, and I got my way in the end. Ha, ha **Evil laugh** And oh, I think the Touch Cruise looks chunky and very unshapefully, but I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder....
Guest Tothotspur Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 i did think about that but the thing is my discount seems to have remained when i upgraded when it shouldn't have....... so don't want to really draw any attention to it
Guest Alkali Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 A piece of advise! You will without doubt regret getting rid of the Kaiser. What are you deaf or dumb? In terms of functionality and beauty the Kaiser beats this toy hands down. Please have a second thougt :( :D And in case you insist then i have no option but to take you to "Modaco Court Of Justice'headed by Honourable Justice Paul,Prosecutor Jimbouk and last and list myself. You can imagine what will happen to you :D If you insist just if you insisit.

My sentiments exactly. I am slightly envious of the HTC Touch Dual, but like I said, the size of the Kaiser is warranted by its superb features. I do find much more attractive than the Touch Cruise which has few curves on its body.

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 If you switched to the Cruise, i'm sure not having a keyboard would drive you nuts! It would me! P
Guest Tothotspur Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 If you switched to the Cruise, i'm sure not having a keyboard would drive you nuts! It would me! P i think i could deal with it as i generally use the on screen keyboard more than the slide out one. I know you hold the dual in very high regard and that would have been my first choice but the lack of GPS is killer (but i am still debating this issue)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Indeed! I've actually got a BT GPS hardwired inside the bootlid of the car (uber stealth), so 99% of the time it's really a non issue. Plus the internal GPSone units are bit sucky compared to a kickass SiRF III GPS anyway... :( P
Guest 246810 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 don't both phones have the same if not very similar features? excluding the keypad i thought there were no other differences ummm....ummm... yeah I think so... from what I've seen of the Touch cruise on youtube, I actually think the album and touch flow is more up to date. Well there goes the foundation of my original arguement....

Well there goes the foundation of my original arguement.... plus it doesn't weigh a tonne! its a hard decision as i do like the Kaiser but its just slightly to big especially when i go out and it isn't that pocketable. as i am on an 18 month contract i have to decide whether i can deal with it
Guest bigdish Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Hey let us put this device into perspective. Navigate with TomTom - stream music to my excellent Moto S9's - talk via the Parrot CK3100 - recieve mails - messages - and that is when I am driving !! Opera Mini etc. completes the experience when I rest ........ r Andrew

There is one thing the Kaiser has over the Touch Cruise. Its much more attractive. It also has a tilting screen. Now does the HTC Cruise have that? Really, if you want a smaller phone thats actually attractive and will provoke envious stares, then I'd just go for the Touch Dual. That is, if you're willing to compromise on internal GPS and wifi... And as for an 18 month contract, geesh. I'm on a 12 month contract. Most networks love to bully customers, in particular those new to contract phones, into keeping a phone for a year and a half. I was realistic enough to realise that in no way will I be keeping the same phone for a whole year and a half. By the time the years up, the next 'must have' pocket pc will be out

By the time the years up, the next 'must have' pocket pc will be out ok i will give you the tilting screen (has been my party trick of late :( ), attractiveness is very subjective and i think they are on similar levels. Actually looking at the stats the cruise is only slightly smaller which is a disapointment so that might be out of the frame. may look into getting a bluetooth gps reciever together with the dual but have a feeling that altogether it will be out of my price range. Unfortunately i get more minutes etc on my 18 month contract and together with my discount it works out to a very good deal and i didn't want to lose that.

Plus the internal GPSone units are bit sucky compared to a kickass SiRF III GPS anyway... :( P Purely subjective and not based on anything more than my own experience, but I have been impressed with just how good the in-built GPS is on the Kaiser when using Tom Tom. I've had a couple of BT external receivers before with my M600 and although they seem to pick up more satelites, I've found the Kaiser's GPS to be better - quicker to find a fix and generally more accurate. Maybe I had low quality BT untils before? Anyway, even if the in-built GPS is inferior to a good quality external, it's worth it for the convenience of not having to charge/cary around another device etc. and also means I can use it whenever I need to - i.e. in someone else's car when I don't have the BT receiver and also with other GPS software when on foot etc.
Guest Tothotspur Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 ok i have decided, i am selling it and in the process of listing it on ebay. currently monitoring an unlocked version which is on £270, i would be happy for an amount around this figure how easy is it to unlock these devices and how do you do it?
Guest 246810 Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 ok i have decided, i am selling it and in the process of listing it on ebay. currently monitoring an unlocked version which is on £270, i would be happy for an amount around this figure how easy is it to unlock these devices and how do you do it? So you’ve put your Kaiser up on Ebay for £270 even though, through your own admission, are slightly indecisive on what pocket pc you will be purchasing next. Is that so wise? You’ve now realised the HTC Cruise is only slightly smaller than the Kaiser so the crux of your motivation for ridding yourself of the Kaiser for the Cruise has pretty much disintegrated The Dual seems to be next on your list of consideration, yet you feel an external GPS unit may be too pricey for you. You’ve also stated that you got a pretty good deal on your Kaiser contract as it came with great discount. Are you sure the grass will be greener on the other side, because to me it seems much greener on the side you're already on?

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 BT GPS units with good chipsets are V V cheap now... e.g.: http://www.semsons.com/gtksiiiibtgp.html - SiRF III, $39.99 plus delivery, 10% Plus discount, free carry case or windscreen mount http://www.semsons.com/qsbtblgpsre31.html - MKT, $48.99 plus delivery, 10% Plus discount, free carry case or windscreen mount (my current GPS - gets good signal inside the bootlid!) The choice is huge... A Dual with WiFi and GPS would rock tho :( P
Guest Tothotspur Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Thanks! kaiser is listed and selling with my 6gb micro sdhc!!
Guest dr_nick Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 A Dual with WiFi and GPS would rock tho :) isn't that the touch cruise? and is there any plan to release the cruise on orange or tmobile in the near future? dr-nick
Guest shootydogthing Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 The touch dual also has the keypad... and it's coming to O2. Don't know about anything else.
Guest Mr.Clark Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 is anybody else finding it a bit too big and heavy? The Kaiser does seem a bit chunky. I've got the other problem. I'm pining for my XDA Exec... The screen and keyboard are a little small for me on the Vario III, and the lack of a hard screen cover when closed makes me worry slightly every time I put it in my jeans pocket. However I could never go back as-is. The VGA screen was better, as was the 3.5mm mic/headphone jack, but the RAM, ROM and GPS are killer features that make me think there's nothing out there as good as the Kaiser at the moment. If only I could get the Kaiser hardware on the Universal form factor. That would be worth £500 to me easily.
Guest Beezer Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 IMHO you are right to make a personal decision. All phones are a compromise - someone please show me the perfect one! Kaiser suits me well but it's for each individual to decide which design factors are of most use to them. Best of luck with your sale and your new handset. :)
