Orange Best Plan

So I was on Panther 75 with unlimited data for an extra £8 a month since Sept '06. Upgraded device in September '07 to a Kaiser.

Got a text this week from O, saying Orange "Bestplan" has a better tariff. I rang them and they pointed out that despite my 1500 mins a month plus the 400 mins free they added as a bonus a couple of months ago plus unlimited texts, I was only using 500-600 mins per month and 250 texts. So they suggested I switch down to dolphin 35.

When I pointed out that I wanted more minutes that the 500 on that plan - as I didnt want to be stung for 35p per min if I went over the 500, we agreed to go for the panther £45 - with 1000 minutes, 300 texts, and unlimited landline calls. I asked them to confirm my data bundle wouldn't be unaffected... and hey presto... £360 per year cheaper.

And WHY?

Cos of Magic Numbers! I now have six magic numbers (each with up to 3000 mins per month free calls) and I basically used about 1000 mins a month talking to them - hence I now can drop my monthly plan right down. Now all I have to do is make sure they don't leave Orange.

Wow- a telco that actually does what it says it's going to!

My experience with Best Plan has been rather more mundane :( I'm in month 10 of an 18 month Racoon 35 contract plus £8pm 30MB data. I got my Best Plan text last week which said: congratulaions- you are already on the best plan, so you don't need to do anything'.

This was something of a surprise, because for reasons I don't need to go into, I only use that contract for data. No phone calls, no SMS, no MMS for the last 6 months. So I rang CS who said- OH yes, maybe we should be on dolphin 30. So, I suggested as I don't make any use of teh contract apart from data, I should be on Dolphin 20 which is their minimum. No deal however- they wouldn't go below dolphn 25. So Best Plan may rely on you being near the end of a contract, and able to drop more than 1 tariff level? At least I'm making some saving, so happy overall.
