Guest hippotech Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Hi - just missed the boat pre-Xmas, mine is on backorder :( I keep reading about the number of writes before the onboard SSD starts to have problems. Does anyone have a feel for how long this would last in reality if the machine is used for an hour or so daily. I plan to install XP and I appreciate you can move the swap file and my documents over to a SDHC card to help, but am looking for a bit of direction.... Cheers Hippo
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 I get the impression that this risk is generally overstated, would love to see some ACTUAL stats tho! P
Guest hippotech Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Been wading thro' the forum today - is there a quick and dirty way to shift the swap file over to SDHC. Some people seem to be having issues with Windows rejecting what it sees as a removable disk ? Hippo
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 AFAIK, it's not been done yet? P
Guest Monolithix Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 With a bunch of registry pokes the people on eeeuser.com forums have managed it. It's more hassle than its worth though imho. I have a 1GB stick of memory and a 512MB swap fine and mine is absolutely fine!
