Guest Samsonite Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Merry Christmas and a Happy New to you all! I played on a nephews PSP today and had my first proper lookie see at the device. Played Pro-Ev and was mighty impressed in the quality of the graphics etc but was more interested in the WiFi/Browser aspect. Couldn't actually hook onto a access point as the in-laws dont have a WiFi router and the neighbours had (annoyingly :( ) WPA-PSK security levels set. Also couldn't ad-hoc onto one the laptops in the house to see if i could steal internet that way as the ad-hoc is for PSP tp PSP right? So, i am seriously thinking of picking one of these up now for the internet as much the gaming - but cant find a coherent answer to some more of my questions. now i know there was a PSP area here a while ago but it isnt about anymore... but i'm hoping some of you out there have either done what i want or found out it cant! Can it play Youtube flash videos? (yes, for the other 'flash' videos there are out there... :D ) I saw on the one today a Flash logo on one of the boot up screens but cant find anything showing native ability. I dont want to be messing about with homebrew or anything that involves changing ROMS etc.. Can it do MSN Messenger other than the browser based solution? and on that front, just how painful is the text input - looked pretty arduous to me... What about Orb? again - what will the PSP natively play? can i drag Divx movies over the WiFi and stream them directly to the PSP? if anyone knows about this then i'd be most obliged for any info or sites to check out as its gonna tear me in two as to whether to get an Eee or a big bundle based around the PSP... : :D I've had a breeze thru t'internet but have only (so far) found older fora that keep going on about different ROM versions and other homebrew malarkey. I would get a bog-stock, UK unit, bought from Comet device as opposed to any eBay, overseas model... thanks in Advance!!!!
Guest dskid807 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Youtube is possible using a homerbrew app, IM is there I believe, and I also thinks codecs are available.

I've bought one now so can answer my own queries. I don't want to get into homebrew just yet so Flash vids are not available and the WEB MSN is practically unworkable due to the browser setup... I have read in the last day or so that Sony will be releasing a genuine app called Go!Messenger for IM but its unclear if it will be cross platform or not, have to wait and see haven't tried Orb yet but don't think it will work out as all my media is Divx or WMV.. I have converted some of my Divx movies into MP4 and that works just fine. Overall i'm luvvin the PSP - i didn't realise how much i miss gaming! Also watching my son 'talk' to the Lego Star Wars characters is priceless!!!
Guest squilla Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 I watch DivX movies on my PSP without converting them via the memory card, I have the Dark Alex version, dont know if that makes a difference. Its good quality video and the sounds good too. The kids have normal PSPs and they use the internet over our home wifi, I thimk they find the keyboard a drag though.
