Guest EdinKali Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Anyone using compact flash for storage/OS via a USB card reader? Just for kicks I plugged in an old reader that I had laying around, popped a card in it and voila! it worked. Xandros saw it and I was able to view the files on it. I recently saw a 16G CF card at newegg for $70 which is a bit cheaper than the SDHC cards in the same size so I started wondering if anyone was using CF instead of SD for storage or an alternate OS. I did check to see if the reader and card was recognized at boot by the eee and it is so it is feasible that it could be used to boot into an alternate OS.
Guest Monolithix Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Yep i've booted off a USB stick, hit Esc (i think) on the EEE screen when you turn it on, and you'll get the boot menu.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I've run Ubuntu completely from my SD :( P
