Guest murpheeie Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Hello all, I bought aN EeePC for my wife as she wanted a laptop but is not so hot on computers her main needs are the net and photos and music. I am in the US at the moment and want to get a Western digital HD (passport) for her to increase the storage. Does anyone know if this will work? I also want to install Xp but am totally flummoxed by all the bootable USB stuff. Should I just buy a usb external cd drive and have done with it. I know and respect the fact that you are all techies but would like a little help here for someone who has no clue at all. thanks in advance guys.
Guest Monolithix Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 You seem to be pretty up on what you need. The external drive will work fine, as for XP if you're happy picking up a USB CDROM drive then it'll install just like normal :(
Guest murpheeie Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Thanks for that I will give it a try. Can I use my XP disk from my dell desktop or HP laptop and install XP from it onto the EeePC?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Depends if it is a regular install or just an image based install... P
Guest Monolithix Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 OEM discs *tend* to have bios-level checks before they allow installs, so if it isnt a dell etc it may not work. Only one way to find out... :(
