Guest Webreaper Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 (edited) I'm thinking of doing a bit of blogging, but when I did a trial run I found that blogger.com doesn't work on PIE because all of the buttons/links are Javascript. Now, I know I can use post-via-email to submit posts, but it would be useful if I could manage the blog from my PDA. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any apps which can do this. I've tried: - Finch Pocketblogger ( http://dotnetjunkies.com/WebLog/teund/arti...ketBlogger.aspx ) - PocketBlogger ( http://www.pocketblogger.net/ ) - PocketBlog ( http://www.pocketblog.com/ ) All of them seem rudimentary and would do the job, but they don't seem to work. I'm guessing that because they were all last modified back in 2005 (or earlier) that the Atom API has changed and is now incompatible. Anyone found any software which can do this? All I'd like to do would be to write posts, save them, upload them, and manage existing posts (maybe alter the formatting a little, etc). Update: Kevin Daly's Diarist ( http://www.kevdaly.co.nz/Software/Blogging/Diarist.aspx ) seems to work, but only v1.2.24 - the latest v2 doesn't appear to work. However, Diarist only lets you post new entries (which I can do via email anyway). Update 2: Doppler mobile ( http://www.dopplerradio.net/dopplermobile-beta ) shows great promise, but I can't work out how to configure it. I have no idea what my 'Blog ID' would be. Any ideas? Guest Subliminal Aura Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 (edited) Good question I've been wanting to do the same. Pocket SharpMT ? http://www.randyrants.com/sharpmt/ You create a blog entry offline and upload your blog post whenever you have a net connection via XML RPC. The key is the XML RPC which is de facto for blogger.com / wordpress etc etc and a very clean way of doing things. However when I played with it I could not get uploading images to work due to the way I have my wordpress blog set up, also I didn't like the user interface to it. Other downside is that this is really a publishing app and doesn't really allow for editing blog entries. I also installed the wordpress pda pluggin which is the best one I've come across for making your blog pda friendly. http://imthi.com/wp-pda However bummer again as the admin interface reverts back to full HTML. I did come across another wordpress mobile plugin which allowed for posting but it was littered with adverts and I couldn't be asked to hack the source. Keep us posted or blogged even :D if you find anything appropriate :( Edited December 31, 2007 by Subliminal Aura
Guest Webreaper Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Pocket SharpMT ? http://www.randyrants.com/sharpmt/ I looked at that, as it's listed in the Kaiser top software thread, but I think it only caters for MovingType RPC, which is good for wordpress, but not for blogger. I suppose I could choose WP instead, but...
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Soz didn't know that blogger.com was not compliant. I like this response : http://bizsutra.blogspot.com/2007/01/blog-...rustration.html " FWIW, SharpMT was designed to work with MovableType and TypePad. That it works with WordPress is an unexpected bonus. The truth is that NO blog engine uses the Blogger or MetaBlog API in it's "original" form - they all have add-ons to it (including MT) which is why there's no "perfect" blog writer... even if you conform to the lowest common API, the engine may or may not like it and you miss out on all the specific features your select engine may offer. Total screw up, IMHO. "

Guest Noger Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I use TypePad Mobile. Obviously quite specific to TypePad, but work pretty well. http://www.sixapart.com/typepad/tmdownload.html
Guest m.zielinski Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Here is another tool http://sampath.wordpress.com/moblog/ Moblog moBlog currently supports Blogger, Wordpress.com and Live Spaces. Support for LiveJournal and MovableType/TypePad is also on the cards.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 What's it like? I won't be downloading until the MTAPI support is there, but i'm interested to hear if it's any good! P

I've just downloaded moblog, and it's not really up to much. It didn't actually work for me (just threw an exception when I tried to connect with my blog credentials). But all it allows you to do is write an entry, save it, and post it when it's finished. It doesn't seem to allow upload of pics, formatting, or the ability to sync and modify previous posts. In its current form it gives me nothing more than I currently have using post-via-email (where I can edit posts in a draft email, and when they're done post them by sending the email). And why can't these tools have useful error messages or validation so that when I input my blog details and it fails to connect, it tells me why, instead of just telling me there was an exception but with not details? Back to the drawing board... :( If I had the time or the inclination, I'd be tempted to write one myself... Edited January 7, 2008 by Webreaper

Got the exceptions as you have noted and fixed by using the FQ URL ie http://blog.foo.com/ It did a full scan when attaching a file so I decided to give up at that point
