Guest EdinKali Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 One of the things I was disappointed with the 2G surf was that asus had disabled the advanced desktop and synaptic. After some searching I found that you could enable it on the 2G surf. Once I had done that I decided to try dl'ing and installing something via synaptic. First thing I saw was 3D Desktop. Marked it and hit apply. Worked like a champ. Did some reading on 3D Desktop's FAQ and got it going. Just need to see about setting up some hotkeys for it. Now if I can just get rid of unionfs I think I'll be a happy camper with the 2G surf. That will be my next thing to tackle. If I am successful with that I may not even bother with XP.
Guest Eeepcnews Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 what kinda 3d desktop are you talking about? Got any screenshots?
Guest EdinKali Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) what kinda 3d desktop are you talking about? Got any screenshots? http://desk3d.sourceforge.net/ They have screenshots there as well. I wrote some short scripts and hotkeyed them so I could run the aquire flag and then 3ddesk with different views(ie, cylinder, slide, bigmoney, etc.). Works a treat. I can run up to 5 virtual desktops with previews. Any more than that I get gray rectangles, which I am sure it is due to the limited video mem. 3ddesktop was one of the first things I saw in the synaptic manager so I read the FAQ on the URL above and then installed it and gave it a whirl.
