Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 (edited) Hi All, I've searched the forum, but didn't manage to find an answer to this: When sending a SMS text message on the TyTN II with the Delivery Notification enabled, is there any way to get the TyTN II to perform a name an address lookup? Let me explain. When I recieve a text message from +44776543210 it will come into my inbox and say "Joe Bloggs". (Assuming that I have Joe Bloggs in my address book). HOWEVER, when I send a SMS to Joe Bloggs with the delivery notification turned on then the notification comes back with "Your message to +44776543210 was successfully delivered". Whilst for messages to just one person this is fine, when I send messages to mulitple recipients then its a pain in the arse to go through all the contacts to find out whom it didn't send to! Thus if it could be "told" to use the contact list to replace the mobile number with a corresponding name, then that would be fantastic!! Cheers Tom Edit: This is the Delivery message in the inbox, not the popup ... in case of any latter confusion. Edited January 2, 2008 by WearTheFoxHat
Guest Transform Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 When I send a text on mine, it just says something like message(s) were sent successfully. Also, if I send to multiple people, I'm pretty sure that it brings back the text message with the remaining people it could not sent to, otherwise the success message appears.
Guest hotphil Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 When I send a text on mine, it just says something like message(s) were sent successfully. that's a different notification from the delivery receipt. Delivery receipts are activated somewhere in the account setup settings. I've set my Kaiser to not do the 'sent' notification (as it's kind of meaningless) but do display delivery notifications - actually tells you that someone got the message. I get what the OP says and it would be a useful thing.
Guest Confucious Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Delivery reports aren't necessarily that reliable. I've had some where delivery was confirmed but the recipient never received it so I don't bother anymore. My G/f sent a happy new year message to her mother, got a delivery report then got a message saying it couldn't be delivered please check address and try again, she resent it, got a delivery report then the cant deliver message again and her mother received it twice the following morning! None of which helps the OP of course....

None of which helps the OP of course.... They're more reliable than the text messages themselves.. And lets face it, you can't believe things that happen on New Years Eve. None of the networks can cope with any of the load... My mum sent me a text messages which I received but her phone said it never sent it.

Guest Confucious Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 This seems to work :( Most excellent. Good stuff - I've downloaded it too. Thanks Markhempstead :D
Guest lozzd Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Wow this looks awesome! If it worked... Do you have to soft reset to get it working or something?
Guest lozzd Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Wow this looks awesome! If it worked... Do you have to soft reset to get it working or something? Yes, yes you do :( or I did. that's AWESOME. Much better! Thanks!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Wow, I didn't even know this fix existed. Nice find, and one for the 'must have software' methinks! P
Guest lozzd Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 ARgghhh I found a rather annoying bug in it already! Is there any support for this app any more? I just sent an SMS that didn't deliver straight away.. So it told me that it didn't deliver and would be resent automatically as often as it could (every 2 seconds or so) until it did deliver (which luckily didn't take long otherwise I would've gone insane!) Any one else had this?
Guest hotphil Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Not really a bug though if it's working as it should. I don't recall seeing an auto-resend in the settings, may have to live with it.
Guest lozzd Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 No, what happened before if a message wasn't send immediately is you would receive ONE message saying "The message couldn't be delivered and will be resent automatically" and then a couple of minutes later (or whenever it delivered) you would get the delivered one. At any rate I emailed the chap who wrote it, nice guy, and he hadn't heard of any reports of that happening before so hopefully it was just an isolated incident. By the way the website is here: http://www.saman-cz.com/ppc/index.html if you want to donate or anything. I will be!
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks guys ... simple fix to a slight annoyance !
Guest kjt57 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Installed this on my TyTN2, will not work. I put the cab onto the phone and installed onto device. I do not get a delivery reciept when sending a text. Is there anything else I need to do? Any advice please.

This only tweaks the previous notification you should've been recieving. Your operator needs to support this, and it needs to be turned on in the SMS options in the Messaging app.

Guest lozzd Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Has anyone had any weird issues on their phones after installing this? Phoneweaver refuses to switch profile now for some reason, and I keep completely running out of memory. It might not be this app though, just the only thing I've installed recently.
Guest lozzd Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Well, I uninstalled this last night, now I have twice as much battery than yesterday despite using my phone more today, more memory free and my phone hasnt got laggy and crashed. Damn, this was a damn fine app :( Time to email the developer again!
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I must admit, my phone does seem slower and much more sluggish than usual and had locked up this morning. Battery usage, I tend to charge overnight every day, and is usually on charge when I am at my desk. Probably not good for the battery, but it ensures I am fully charged when I do go out and about!
Guest lozzd Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 i contacted the guy who wrote it and he said it is entirely possible that it could be causing an issue... Do you send and recieve quite a few text messages? He's having to re-write the core soon anyway for smartphones so he's going to send me a test version to see if that's any better. My battery has been twice as full two days in a row since removing it. Doesn't seem to be a co-incedence any more.
Guest hotphil Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Interesting. I'd noted a drop in battery since installing too, but put it down to other causes. Will be interesting to see if the guy can right a new version to address it.
