Guest kawser Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 (edited) Hello I am about to buy a Asus Eee PC 4G, but before I do I want to know how can I install Windows XP on the Built-In SSD. Also what type of storage should I get for the Eee or what do you think is the best storage for the Eee. (External HardDrive, SD, Flash Drive, etc.) Which one of these will be cheap and in the long run good. Thanks. :( Edited January 2, 2008 by kawser
Guest Monolithix Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 If you don't mind lugging a 2.5" external drive around go for that, definately. Personally i use an 8GB SDHC which is permanently in my EEE, and my iPod in disk mode for anything larger. XP can be installed from a USB stick, although some people have struggled to get this working. Instead you could pick up a cheap external usb CDROM drive.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I want to keep extras-required-to-lug at a minimum, else it kinda negates the benefit of the tiny device :( P
Guest aps Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 (edited) In my opinion you should go for SDHC Card. Prefably 8GB but more the better i'd say but Class 6 or higher. :( This will hide in your SD slot and still maintain the portability of your Eee-PC. I also suggest a 2.5" Laptop HDD but what Paul (MVP) above said is true. It will defeat the purpose of being mobile. Then again i always seems to carry around my memory stick so you could buy a large capacity memory stick. Theres currently 8gb Corsair going for good prices (fast and very reliable), also in 16gb and you will be lucky to get a 32gb but their expensive. I had trouble installing XP through USB Memory Stick so i luckily had an external enclosure for CD Drives (HDD also work) so i was successful through that method. Note: You have to first make sure the external device such as the CD Drive driver is installed for you to boot in some occasions. Edited January 4, 2008 by aps
