Guest Lynswin Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 We have recently moved house to an area that has no mobile reception. This is a bit of a pain as it means that when I am at home (which is most of the time as I work from home) I don't receive calls or texts on my mobile. I am not too bothered about the calls as if someone wants to call me they will try my home number but it is a bit frustrating that I can't receive any SMS messages - when I finally get in to a area with reception I have loads of SMS messsages from people who think I have been ignoring them!! I have an SPV E650 and wifi access at home and I was wondering if there is any way (preferably free) that I can send and receive SMS through my wifi connection? Ideally I would be able to pick up any SMS messages sent to my usual mobile number through my wifi connection Is this possible and if so, how?? Many thanks Lynda PS Daughter has an iphone and it would be great if she could get her SMS messages through wifi too. Any ideas?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Unfortunately this isn't possible, on either device! P
Guest spacerace Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 O2's Fusion service would allow this, but not with either handset you have now. It would be worth keeping an eye on as they may introduce the ability to add generic WiFi capable handsets.

You need to wait until the mobile operators start offering the new 'femtocells' for home use. Orange are conducting trials at present, though it may be 1-2years before they become readily available. Femtocells are small mobile signal tranmitters that connect to the mobile network via broadband, and are aimed precisely at those in your situation with no cell coverage.
Guest Monolithix Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Orange *do* offer this through a Unregistered Mobile Device Access service. Basically they have a few handsets (including the ok-ish Nokia 6301) that work with their broadband Liveboxes to connect to the O network via the Internet. It's called Unique and is being tested in certain shops at the moment. I've no idea how well it works, but i think its pretty promising if they do pull it off reliably.
Guest Lynswin Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Many thanks for the replies. Best wishes Lynda
