Stopping BJII's screen from turning on when bands are changed.

Sorry if I'm using incorrect terminology...

Whenever my phone changes bands (ie. from 3G to Edge and visa versa), the LCD turns on until it idles out again... I don't like this and it is a waste of battery life. Is there a way, perhaps in the registry (hopefully in the menus) to disable this?

That's a bit dumb! Any other BJII users seen that?

Another thing I noticed is that it comes on when I am in Yahoo! Messenger and the status of one of my buddies change. As soon as they go idle, my screen comes on. Etc, etc...

I don't have yahoo messenger, but I don't exhibit the first issue at all. Tested it today while I was driving in and out of 3G-EDGE areas for a while...

I am glad someone else has this problem. THis has been happening to me from the day i bought my phone on 11-26-08. And in my house, it frequently changes from E to 3G. It has been talked about in many other threads, but no one has ever pin pointed the cause, till now. I hope there is a fix soon.

Not sure if you misread or misquoted, but I said I didn't have this problem. I'll look into it though and let you know if I come up with anything...

About Yahoo though, I was just thinking, if you're using OZ messenger (the included one) I'm pretty sure that uses text messages. Therefore, it'll definitely power on the screen when you get a message, and by the way I understand it to work, it gets a text message when someone signs on, so it makes sense...

But I do have a question for you guys with the other problem, are you enabling the key lock or not? See what happens if you turn on the key lock and without (press and hold the red key to turn on the keylock).

I will do this tomorrow at work since my desk appears to be right between a 3G cell and a Edge cell, so it switches all the time just sitting in the same spot. However, I'm not a big fan of key lock, so I hope that isn't my solution.

I recently bought a BlackJack 2 and also have the same issue. It lights up about every 5 minutes and nothing is running (I even rebooted to insure nothing was running). It occurs whether locked or unlocked and happens with or without enabling bluetooth.

Though I haven't paid attention to whether or not my screen turns on when changing bands, the screen on my BJII does randomly turn on at times. I have noticed that one cause of it is if I add an appointment on my Outlook Exchange account via my desktop computer. My BJII lights up when this change auto-syncs to my phone. However, it also seems to light up at other random times too, which is annoying because I sit looking at the phone for a few seconds wondering if I'm about to receive a call/text/email. <_

My solution...

Since the phone backlight comes on when the phone switches band...stop the phone from switching bands.

I've used the following to set my phone to use the EDGE network exclusively unless i switch it back over to 3G (EDGE provides longer battery life anyway).

Step 1: Creat a shortcut on your BJ wherever you want to \Windows\AdminSettings.exe (the program is already there).

Step 2: Press the Power button once and choose Wireless Manager.

Step 3: Press Menu and select Disconnect cellular data (this may not be necessary if you don't see "MediaNet" under Phone)

Step 4: Launch AdminSettings

Step 5: Choose Option 3

Step 6: Choose Optioin 5 and change from Auto to GSM

Step 7: Perform a soft reset.

If it worked your phone will display an "E" where previously you saw "G3"

AND since it will no longer switch between bands no more battery loss on Backlight!
