Guest Killian Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Hi guys, I should be getting the Vario 3 next week and wondered if you could advise on if its worth letting the tmob customisations run or to reboot it as they go to? I let them install on my MDA Compact 3 and got this stupid task bar at the bottom that I just can't seem to get rid of. Is it pretty much the same thing? Also - a little off the topic for this but I haven't updated my PDA for quite some time as from what I understand you need to hard reset it. Is there any software that can return the phone to how it was before the reset when you update? Hope that makes sense!
Guest hotphil Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 You could always live with them for a couple of weeks and then do a hard reset and not install them after the reset. I'd reckon on having to do a hard reset after a couple of weeks with any new device anyway (once you've found out which software you actually like). Sprite backup works for me (and came free on the CD with my Vodafone-branded Kaiser).
Guest Killian Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Sounds like a good idea, will let them install and see exactly what I get and maybe hard reset after a couple weeks.
Guest hotphil Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Might also be worth having a read through the further up Modaco Kaiser wiki and familiarise yourself with all the fixes and tweaks prior to taking delivery of your shiny new phone.
Guest mandt Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Just like to say, as a fellow Vario III owner, that T-Mobiles customisations of the phone are extremely slight. The only app that gets installed is F-Secure anti-virus, which is easily removed in remove programs. Download the debrander at the top of the Kaiser forum to restore the default blue icons and you're done :( T-Mo deserve credit for doing such a nice job, for once
Guest lozzd Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Just confirming what mandt said, afaik it only installs the F-Secure antivirus which is easily removable and that's that. It's hardly customised at all.
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Totally agree ... Ive got the standard tmobile rom, and just ran the debranding and uninstalled f-secure.
Guest Killian Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I should be getting it tomorrow so will let it install and do the debrand. Was just worried I'd get that weird task bar that stretches across the bottom of the screen like I did with my MDA. Thanks for all the help.
Guest mandt Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Don't worry it's not there on the Vario III, you'll get a tray at first with just the F-Secure icon in it, but once you uninstall it problem solved
