WMWifiRouter turns your WM device into a WiFi, er, Router!

Here's an application i've been meaning to write about for a little while, but having finally got it working across my plethora of machines (PC, Mac, Eee), I decided it was a good time to post :(

WMWiFiRouter, turns your device - as the name would suggest - into a WiFi Router. Let me explain. You run this application on your WiFi enabled device, and it turns your device into an AdHoc internet sharing WiFi access point, that you can connect to from your other machines, and surf the web. As you can see in the picture below, I was able to simply run the app on my Vario III, connect to the broadcasting AP from my Asus Eee, and surf away on the web :D

You can call your AP whatever you want, enable encryption if desired and finally forget about the pain of cable and BlueBooth tethering. Best of all? It's FREE!

You can download the application and read more from the author's website.

Enjoy :D

Seems like a cool app if you have WnW Plus :(

So does this get round the "Your not allowed to use your phone as a modem" issue on Tmobile?

Kimbie: No...you're still using it as a modem :(

I thought you were using it as a router. Where is the modulation and demodulation of signals when using this? :D

Sorry couldnt help myself! Its quite boring at work today!

Paul, apologies to your wife in advance, I love you :D

I'm moving house this Friday (11th) and my Sky broadband will be a few days before it's up and working, so I was thinking I'll connect my phone to my tower PC and plug that into my router and share the internet connection with my laptop. No need now, expect heavy testing over the next week or so :(

The *phone* is still acting as a modem, and then routing the data packets via wifi using the routing software :(

That's not really the point, and wasn't your original question :(

They could likely tell, if they wanted to...

Depends on how you use the term modem as it means modulation and demodulation from digital to analogue back to digital, but then I was only being facetious!!!

Im experiencing a problem at the moment whereby I get wlan is on! Waiting for ICS.

Now I have ICS running on my kaiser and have been using it for ages via usb and bluetooth. However I do have duttys rom on there right now. Im wondering if it looks for it in a place where this program would normally reside but due to duttys movements it has changed to somewhere else.

Suggestions would be helpful if anyone knows how to cure this...Am reading through on xda devs right now but not come up with an answer ..... yet.

Thanks

Phill

:(

Anyway any luck with my problem anyone?

Has anyone else experienced this? My mate at work has a vario 2 (custom firmware as well) and the same thing has happened. I will try one with the network settings and see what happens.

- Do you have an Ad-Hoc network configured? (installer with network settings does this for you)

- Make sure you are not using WPA

- ICS should be \Windows\IntShrui.exe , doubt dutty moved that. Besides, if there was no ICS in that location, you wouldn't get this far :(

You will surely know when you get the bill - like this numpty who started d/l knocked off dvds from bitTorrent and then got a rather big Vodaphone data bill!! http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/27/ma...bile_data_bill/

Yea just downloaded the with network settings cab and installed it. have now got to connected to wmwifirouter enabled with a big green solid state logo.

Have enabled wifi on my pc but not going anywhere. And as for using WPA how exactly would I as this is not a proper router and as such, is not going to have those settings (well I cant find them anyway!!)

So I have got a bit further but not much!!!

HA HA!!!

Well I am on WNW so I would not expect anything like that to happen. I would expect to get cut off before I get landed with a big bill. I am not aware of tmob charging any more for useage over a certain point, more that they would reduce/stop your activity if it falls foul of the fair useage policy.

As for getting help it seems you guys are my only saviours, at least for the next few hours, as the article I was reading on xda devs was whisked away due to maintenance!!

Anyone got any further than me that might have experienced this?!!!

Get it working without encryption before you start messing with the settings :(

XDA is back up - that was a very short 3 hour maintenance :( So you can continue reading there. As for WPA, on some phones this option is also available for Ad-Hoc networks, but that obviously does not work.

If you get the big green icon your phone is ready for business. I have noticed myself that the signal strength is not that good sometimes, and Windows often fails to detect it. You can try restarting WMWifiRouter. Also make sure to search for it on your PC, refresh the list a couple of times, move the device around, etc.

Also, note the network name: it says Connect to . This _should_ be WMWifiRouter, else you need to configure your phone to only connect to Ad-Hoc in your WiFi setup.

My device keeps changing it's WiFi settings back down to 'Best Battery', which is annoying :(

not checked to see if that happens with me, but then while it is plugged into a power source will it change these settings?

I've been waiting for this for some time now. I was growing tired of having to carry my cable along with me everywhere I go. (Although the battery will probably be drained in under 3 hours) Let me know what your battery life experience on the kaiser is Paul. Thanks
