Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 The 2G Surf seems like a nice idea, but I was kinda hoping it'd come in around the £150 mark, when in fact it's almost as expensive as the 4G. A bit disappointing, wonder if retailers are inflating the price due to current low availability? P
Guest fmjammo Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Hi Paul! Here in Canada the 2G surf is 299$ cdn at ncix.com and circuit city.

P I agree - considering how restricted it is (really titchy SSD, soldered RAM, lower spec CPU, lower capacity battery) it should be no more than 170 quid max, with the 4gig model at 200 quid. I also agree that the current prices are due to demand. Once stocks are plentiful I can see them dropping the price quite a bit to shift the 2gig models and I'd hope that the 4gig would fall to the 200 quid mark. Guest Monolithix Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Perhaps they are aimed at the education market, one of the main reasons for the EEE's existance :( Cheaper to produce and great for a "standard fit" of software to use used by all students. Asus decided to sell them due to the popularlity. Although thinking about it, that doesn't explain the colour options? :s
Guest EdinKali Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Once the demand dies down a bit, if they have trouble selling the 2G surfs we might see them discounted. If they discount them enough or start showing up on ebay for good prices I may pick one up for spare parts. ie, battery, charger and hard parts if something happens to one of mine.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 If you're sticking with standard build, 2G is actually probably good enough for most things! P
