Guest EdinKali Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Looks good but double the price of my 4G surf.
Guest Prosody Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I'm seriously considering this, as I was planning on spending almot £300 for an 8gig EEE with 1 gig ram. If the PC world finance options for this were better I'd order one now, might try an order just to see if there are more finance options than listed next to the product. :/
Guest Monolithix Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Certainly a decent spec, but it's seriously infringing on the budget-laptop er....budget now! Having said that if i'd had the choice between that and the EEE when i got mine i think i might have been swayed :/ (i think the EEE is better looking though...)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Too expensive, and ugly. >250 quid, not interested. P
Guest Prosody Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Well the E-Bayers selling the 8gig with 1 gig of ram (like theoneyou bought) come to almost 300 with shipping, this comes with XP and 30 gigs... to me thats worth the extra £50. It's not as pretty but it's not ugly I don't think. Gonna go down toPC world to see if I can get a feel for it. :(
Guest Holyprop Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 (edited) well, there is an ebay seller selling 4g eee's with xp pro and 1gb ram pre installed for £260, if i were buying now i would go for tht opion over the cloudbooker. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ASUS-Eee-pc-4g-1gb-r...1QQcmdZViewItem :) :D :D :D :D :D Edited January 12, 2008 by Holyprop
Guest Monolithix Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 It'll be a dodgy version of XP though :)
Guest Holyprop Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 no touchpad???? also its fairly ugly, ill give it a miss
Guest Holyprop Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 It'll be a dodgy version of XP though :) almost certainly true :D
Guest Prosody Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 (edited) If I were to go with the 4gig EE option Holyprop mentioned then I would have to buy at least a 4 gig SDHC card for my purposes, which would mean I'm approaching £300, then there's the dodgy windows version and the hastle in getting an external CD drive to install apps with. With the Packard Bell I could set up windows networking and then using demon tools mount isos of office etc that I can copy across the network to install them. The way I'm looking at it is that yes I could get a budget laptop for just a bit more with better specs all round but its the size I'm after, in terms of Ultra Portable notebooks then compared to the Vaios I see for £1000 plus the £350 is great. :) I'm 90% swayed towards getting the Packard Bell. :D Edited January 12, 2008 by Prosody
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 What do you use as a mouse on it if there's no touchpad? P
Guest Prosody Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 There is a touchpad... it's small but it's above thekeyboard on the right hand side, the left and right click are on the left so if can be operated with your thumbs a bit like a game pad. The video above shows it. Not ideal but seems to work... saying that I've swayed back towards the EEE again.. gah... just can't make up my mind. I think mainly I want it for web browsing and writing and that's what I have to keep in mind, however when i see something with more bells and whistles I just start drooling and my mind rationalises away hundreds of pounds... does this happen to anyone else? :/

Made by Packard Bell. Run away, run far away! :)
Guest Prosody Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Yike's! Made by Packard Bell. Run away, run far away! :) LOL It's just badged by them, it's made by a third party. I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick to getting a 4 Gig EEE, 90% at least :D Need to be sensible. Plus I hearthat the processor inside the cloudbooker isn't as good as the EEE, and the graphics chip barely does any 3D. :/
