Guest jyalexop2003 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Late last night I was trying to find the 'GPStest' file on my BJ2 and saw numerous files containing the 'wifi' string. UnfortunateIy I can't find them anymore. Has anyone found such files before? Could there be "crippled wifi' on the BJ2?
Guest thelostsoul Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I noticed them too. Considering original plans were to include wifi in the BJII but Cingular wouldn't allow it, it is possible there's a chip in there, but I would doubt it. If anyone has the know-how to reverse engineer anything in there, go for it! I'll search around as best I can, but I don't expect to come up with much...
Guest thelostsoul Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 (edited) After some very deep registry browsing, I've found that it is possible that there is a Wifi chip in the device. However, even if there is, there's no software to get it working anyway... So, I'd say there's about a 5% probability that the chip is there, and < 1% probability that if there is, we'll ever get to use it.... EDITED: Changed my mind about the probabilities after a little more research... Edited January 12, 2008 by thelostsoul
Guest Sed8ed Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 After some very deep registry browsing, I've found that it is possible that there is a Wifi chip in the device. However, even if there is, there's no software to get it working anyway... So, I'd say there's about a 20% probability that the chip is there, and a 2% probability that if there is, we'll ever get to use it.... Ha...Wouldnt surprise me...Damn crippled devices. I still dont understand it. They so want you to hook into their data plans like junkies. They may as well sell drugs as the principle is much the same..(LOL major exaggeration but you get what I mean).... Things are getting bad for me..I am living on this forum to see what comes about. Havent been this phone stunned since I got my AT&T 8525 and did a WM6 rom update and radio rom update. I so need to learn more about registry settings what they do and how to test mod them for tweaking etc...I wonder if someone will eventually extract the rom and cook it. If I new where to start I would. I know there was some work over at XDA by someone extracting an original BJ rom but I never read it fully and I was just browsing.

Guest salado Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 found some reg keys for wifi here hkey_current_user>controlpanel>WiFi
Guest thelostsoul Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 found some reg keys for wifi here hkey_current_user>controlpanel>WiFi Yes, there appear to be several registry keys referencing Wifi, however, there appears to be no drivers for a chip, and no software to manage it. So even if it is there, unless we can find some good coders, I don't expect to get to using it, sadly...
Guest MadHermit Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Yeah I seen them too, it would be great!
Guest Sed8ed Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Yeah I seen them too, it would be great! [/quote It woud seem someones needs to volunteer to open the "hatch" so to speak..need a look see at the board for the chip. Then drivers can be implemented based on chip. Although not entirely relevant, I did find a WLAN card in a modem/router once...after searching the chip number I was able to identify the chipset...after some days of critical searching I found one very insignificant website with a very significant driver....the card worked. Very well. Was not a well known card....only a serial number on chip. So who knows...maybe it could work. Considering it's wifi rather than GPS (as in the case with the 8525 the internal GPS could not locate any sat's and was super crippled)...I think this has more of a 8% chance now rather than 5% as mentioned earlier....
Guest opticalc Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 there is a euro version of the bjii/i617 and it has wifi. I forgot its name though. kinds odd that the US version didnt have wifi.

Guest thelostsoul Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Closest euro version I know of is that touch screen on (780 i think) but that's too distant a relative to the BJII to really call it a euro version of it...

Guest knv8 Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 prob some default windows files, the os is loaded on diff phones not just ours
Guest sfleuriet Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 prob some default windows files, the os is loaded on diff phones not just ours I agree.
Guest Confucious Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 I have a C600 which has never had and will never have WiFi - it is based on the HTC Faraday some versions of which do have WiFi and the ROM I am using has lots of WiFi stuff but with no chip there is absolutely no chance of getting WiFi working on my phone. Just because you have some software doesn't mean that you have the hardware and, like knv8 said, they are probably just default WM files, easier to leave in than remove.
Guest FAF_DRAKO Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 (edited) prob some default windows files, the os is loaded on diff phones not just ours I agree. I second this... :D Edited May 12, 2008 by FAF_DRAKO
Guest Toilet Duk Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 I have also never heard of a Euro version of the BJII. Yeah, it's US/Canada only, right?
Guest christophe75 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Cool, when I search in my windows mobile generic files, I find files about printer too ! It mean that if I put papers inside my i617 I could print my pics ? I find too fax, If I have found the hole to put paper for the printer, I could send my docs by fax !!! Hey dudes ! You have Windows Mobile Generic files in your i616, don't think you have all options that you will find in registry and others hidden files. :D
