Disabling the soft buttons

I use the keyboard on my Kaiser a lot for texting, e-mailing and IMing and the layout is really starting to bug me as I regularly hit the poorly placed soft buttons at the top of the keyboard by accident and end up screwing up the message I am typing.

Is there any way to disable the buttons - I'm only talking about the ones above the keyboard, not those on the face (or the screen for that matter, as I'd still want to use those).

I use AE Button Plus to set the two soft keys to work on long press only and ignore a normal short press. Only problem with this is that the soft keys on the front of the device are set to long press too, but I'd rather have that than be sending half complete emails all the time.
