Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I know there's a fair few of us here on T-Mobile UK, and i'm willing to bet the vast majority of us are on a Web'n'Walk tariff! Well, it that includes you, then you're going to be very interested to learn that T-Mobile now offering free WiFi Hotspot access to Web'n'Walk Plus users! The Web'n'Walk Plus plan, which comes in at £12.50 a month (£5 more than the basic W'n'W service), already frees users from the limitations of the base product by including IM, FTP etc., but for many this latest addition will make the upgraded price plan a no brainer! Full details can be found in the T-Mobile Press Release, an excerpt from which i've included below. One thing i'm not 100% clear on is exactly how you take advantage of this. I'm a W'n'W Plus user on one of my SIMs - how do I get the hotspot login? Anyone know? :) P [Edit: It says NEW customers, I sincerely hope it's not ONLY new customers!] Free WiFi for T-Mobile Broadband customers Every new customer on web’n’walk ˜Plus’ or ˜Max’ price plan to benefit Key features:T-Mobile is the largest provider of public WiFi in the world, with over 1,200 HotSpots in the UK First mobile operator to offer inclusive access to a WiFi network as part of a mobile broadband price plan Prices from £12.50 per month when connecting with a Flext mobile phone contract which now includes access to every T-Mobile WiFi HotSpot Broadband speeds up to 8mbpsLondon, UK, 9 January 2007: WiFi and high-speed 3G (HSDPA) are being fused together for the first time today. T-Mobile announces the integration of its ground-breaking web’n’walk price plan with its UK network of WiFi HotSpots to offer its customers the best mobile data network, with unprecedented access to broadband on the go at unbeatable prices. The largest provider of public WiFi in the world, T-Mobile is the first UK Mobile Broadband operator to offer access to a WiFi network as part of a mobile broadband price plan. Starting at £12.50 per month (when connecting with a Flext mobile contract), the service gives you access to the internet through using your laptop. Additionally, it lets you access the WiFi network on a huge range of locations like Starbucks coffee shops, airports, main-line train stations, service stations and hundreds of other locations in the UK, without paying extra to connect to wireless hotspots. Without T-Mobile’s web’n’walk price plan, access to WiFi costs from £5 for 60 minutes (one off or occasional access), £10 per month for subscription or £20 per month for those without a T-Mobile phone. Guest nforsans Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 sorry to disappoint Paul, but it clearly says "new" customers in the press release... maybe the way forward is to cancel the w'n'w add-on, then activate it again a month later - this way, you appear as a new customer. but it means spending one month without the facility...having said hat, who needs the wifi thing when one gets 3g and HSDPA (activated by default for w'n'w plus users) with t-mobile?
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Oh bugger! I wish T had upgraded their coverage where I live. I had to leave 6 months ago.
Guest Monolithix Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Well i'm hoping to switch to T-Mobile once the Touch Plus drops, i'd just about convinced myself that i didnt need WnW Plus, but with the rumours of HSDPA being limited on WnW standard (no idea how true that actually is), and allowing modem access, i might have to reconsider getting WnW Plus if it includes Hotspot access! Presumably this includes hotspots world-wide?
Guest Monolithix Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 having said hat, who needs the wifi thing when one gets 3g and HSDPA (activated by default for w'n'w plus users) with t-mobile? As far as i understand it, this includes access for any wifi enabled device, useful if you have a laptop with you, no?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Might phone up and have a moan. Failing that, I wonder if I can switch from Plus to normal and back to Plus? Will ring em later. P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 And why do networks insist on pissing people off in this way? P
Guest Shuflie Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 And why do networks insist on pissing people off in this way? P Because they can? Let us know how you get on, I've still got the original Web'n'Walk unlimited for £7.50 but would consider an upgrade to the Plus version if I got the hotspot access too.
Guest Confucious Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Don't you read mobiholics? .... http://www.mobiholics.com/content/T-Mobile...lk/#entry869672 :)
Guest Thumper Net Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 (edited) hehe finally caught up with holland then , this has always been standard and free with wnw for nearly 2 years :D i tryed to do the same on orange when they upted the data from 2mb to 250mb but i found out the only way to get the new data was to extend my contract by 2 years , spoke to the t-mob here and that applies to them as well if changing wnw tarrifs :D remember guys the networks are only interested in one thing and thats money :) so be prepared to sign a new contract or extend your old one if you can that is. Guest tsutton Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Don't you read mobiholics? .... http://www.mobiholics.com/content/T-Mobile...lk/#entry869672 :) I submitted this as news on 9th Jan - it didn't get picked up. :D
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Ooh, my new message notifications for the news area aren't working! :) Sorry about that everyone! P
Guest tsutton Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 No worries. :) So, have you contacted T-Mobile yet?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 NEW CUSTOMERS (or upgraders) ONLY! :) :D :D P
Guest Confucious Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Can we downgrade then upgrade again?
Guest AndyO Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 NEW CUSTOMERS (or upgraders) ONLY! :D :) :D P Yeah read this....what a laugh. Your £12.50 is better than my £12.50. If it was a limited time offer I'd understand, but the fact this is being touted as the new standard for the tariff means adding it to existing users should have been a no brainer. I really hope they see sense soon. Grrrrr. Of course, wouldn't be such a problem if their HSDPA network wasn't so obscenely temperamental. I've had 4 or 5 outages of 3G or data lasting several hours since I opened my account in November. Which is terrible reliability in my book. And of course, all you ever get from customer services is 'our engineers have nearly resolved the problem'. Yeah, sure.... /rant :D
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Can we downgrade then upgrade again? Nope, tried that angle, new CONNECTIONS only. Wonder who we can kick-up a stink with? :) P
Guest Confucious Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 To tell the truth I only use WiFi abroad - I doubt if this covers that! In this country my HSDPA is very reliable and doesn't eat my battery so I'm not that fussed.
Guest Alsicole Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Nope, tried that angle, new CONNECTIONS only. Wonder who we can kick-up a stink with? :) P I am watching the outcome of this quite keenly! Would be interesting to see if anyone gets it if they try to leave!
Guest the_invisigoth Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Direct from the T-Mobile web'n'walk page:
How do I start using WiFi HotSpots?
Once you've signed up to web'n'walk Plus, Max or Plus Daily follow these steps:Text OPEN to 9526You'll then receive your HotSpot username and passwordFind your nearest HotSpotTake your WiFi enabled laptop to the HotSpot locationType your username and password into the HotSpot login screenSurf the web!Web'n'walk fair use policy applies. Just tried it, and it worked for me (have had my Vario II for 12 months now, so definitely not a new subscriber!).
Guest Thumper Net Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 That seems long winded to get a wifi connection , here you just switch on your wifi fill in your mobile number and your away , it registers from your mobile number account if you dont have wnw it asks for payment , mostly mc donalds have the free wifi points in holland and its only free in the country you live in . if your unlucky to have an orange nl sim ( which is now owned by t-mobile ) you cant get access, but lucky for every orange customer you can cancel your contract free without any charges due to the cost of phoning abroad changing ,( it should be cheaper from 1 september 2007 ) the contract you signed for was per second orange have changed that to per minute without notification , so they have broken the conditions you originally signed for, i have myself killed 6 orange contracts without any cost for that reason :D has this also happened to the uk mobile users if so providing your contract was signed before august 2007 you can cancel :)
Guest tsutton Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Just tried it, and it worked for me (have had my Vario II for 12 months now, so definitely not a new subscriber!). Sure it's free? I don't want to try it only to find that they added a bill for using T-Mobile WiFi! Edit Just checked, here it is... Charge to your mobile phone and pay per use If you don't need access regularly and you have a T-Mobile phone, set up a HotSpot account. Simply text OPEN to 9526 and we'll text you back a username and password valid at all T-Mobile and partner HotSpots worldwide. After this your HotSpot charges will simply be added to your T-Mobile bill and £1/10 minutes thereafter (75p inc VAT at the start of each 10-minute period connected to T-Mobile HotSpots in the UK and £1 at the start of each 10 minutes period connected to BT Openzone Wi-Fi locations). http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/mobile-.../hotspot/costs/
