Probability of GPS Unlocking...

If I was to buy a blackjack say, for instance, tonight, what would be my estimated success of unlocking the GPS to sucessfully work outside of telenav? I'm really looking for a solution that won't cost me for data.

100%

Just hard reset until you can get it working. Installing the patches here will also help.

Having to hard reset over and over is a PITA. I just straight gave up on GPS on this device... Really too bad.

Yes, it is. But I've finally got mine working how I want it.

After hard resetting several times, Garmin XT works everytime, no GPS hacks installed. I've decided not to use any other applications with it to avoid any possible conflicts. No WLS, no GMAPs, just Garmin.

It is a shame that Samsung couldn't perfect the GPS prior to release. But I'm thinking ATT's locking down of the system messed it up so much, that I can't really blame samsung entirely for it...

How are the data-driven features of Garmin XT? Traffic, weather, etc?

Are you saying that you did not install the GPS hack that Paul pulled out of the SDK for windows mobile?

Edit: Ahhh. Looks like Garmin XT uses the intermediate driver. Is that why Paul's hack isn't needed?

For me, it worked, but be careful as apparently some people's Garmin's don't have GPSID (intermediate driver) support for some reason according to some other forums. I'm not sure what to look for to find one that supports it, but I got mine as a gift, and it worked as soon as I popped the card in and installed it.

Traffic I haven't really been able to use. Under subscription, it says "Free" and that it's not supported for my area. But whenever I map, it says "Downloading traffic info" and "Sponsored by..." I think it might be pretty good, but I'm not sure it works in the USA at all.

The weather is good, provided a decent forecast grid of the next 8 (i think?) days, but I use MediaNet weather, which is more detailed, anyway...

And that is correct, I did not install Paul's hack. GPSID is what the phone already has. Those applications map the GPSID to a com port, which is unnecessary with my version of Garmin.

But I guess if you get a Garmin that doesn't support the GPSID, you could install the hack from paul and it should work. Prior to hard resetting, I was using it on COM4 without much of an issue...you might find that it'll just stop working until you hard reset though...

I can confirm that Garmin works well. I have installed a solution with an australian map and cold boot lock is under a minute. I dont have any data pack so this was my only solution.

All working on my own 1gb MicroSD. I have to kickstart the GPS with GPStest app (the built in one) as I have the intermediate driver installed and Garmin supports this. If you in fact buy the software and it doesnt work straight off the card you could install the intermediate driver and use that by selecting (Windows Intermediate Driver) under the remote GPS tab in Garmin XT....For me the Internal GPS isnt seen unless I run the GPStest app first, otherwise it's fine and works perfectly everytime. I just have to remember to open the task manager and close the GPStest app when I am finished or the battery is gone in no time LOL...

I am sure I could polish the install a little more to not have to install any GPS driver or hack..but it works and I am not touching it (did a backup to make sure)
