Guest Kenneh! Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 I tried searching for this but there seem to be no topics regarding this. Has anyone attempted upgrading their SSD to a larger one? Or is the one embedded on it not interchangeable.. Reason I ask is because I recently did a network install for a gentleman and he hooked me up with a 32gb Samsung. Thanks in advance!
Guest Monolithix Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 The SSD is soldered onto the motherboard, so you can't change it. If the 32GB you have (lucky sod!) is a minipci-express and your EEE is a model equipped with a minipcie socket, you can use it in there. Otherwise, how much? ;p
Guest Kenneh! Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) well i'm not quite sure, i might attempt opening up and looking around it a bit and attempt soldering it in myself, if not to the best of my knowledge they go for 400-450$ usd new xD so iono, we'll see what happens though, I get mine first think tomorrow morning, can't wait! haha Edited January 24, 2008 by Kenneh!
Guest Prosody Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 I think if I follow what Monolithix was sayign and what I have read else where that if your SSD has a minipcie connection and the EEE has the spare minipcie socket that some models have you can plug it straight into that socket without having to solder. From what I remember reading, previously when you plug a minipcie device into the socket the internal soldered SSD stops working which leads people to think that if you use a SSD with a minipcie connector in it it will recognise it and use the new SSD instead of the old one. :) I could be wrong though. :D
