Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Ok ... Im sure I have read somewhere that not all HSDPA networks are the same. For instance T-Mobile states that they operate at 1.8Mbps, yet Three's "turbo" network uses 2.8Mbps. Yet I thought HSDPA was actually 3.6Mbps. Someone care to enlighten me. Is it an operator decision with regards to the max speed, or a device limitation?
Guest Monolithix Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Mixture of both, 3.6 and 7.2Mbps HSDPA devices are starting to emerge and the networks are starting to catch up. Interestingly i've just switched from 3 to TMob, supposedly sharing 3G masts, and found TMob's coverage poorer than 3's :/

Maybe this time next year things might be slightly more integrated....
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Yeah from what I have read, the agreement is in place, but technically it may take longer to share networks. I'm looking forward to it though. As I chose T-Mobile over their price plan ... but it seems 3 have a better network where I live. As a slight aside, this weekend a friend wanted broadband at home. She's only just moved there and as her and her partner both have mobile phones they don't want/need a landline. Therefore she has bought the 3 usb broadband modem. I hadn't even considered this for a residential alternative for broadband ... but for a light/casual user, then it's just as cheap as a home connection!
Guest Monolithix Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Yep - some good deals around atm. Not so good if you watch a lot of 4oD though :)
