Does anybody know how to get just my city on my SD card by editing GMAPSUPP.IMG, so that I can recreate it and fit it on my memory card? I used gpsdaemon to open the gmapsupp.img file and it let me extract certain countries, but nothing in the US. If anybody has a map of California to be used in Garmin they could post I'd appreciate it.

You need to get the City Navigator North America or Europe 2008 NT. Then you install Garmin Mapinstall and Garmin MapSource software. There you can edit the maps you want to load to your cellphone. For example, I live in Miami and just loaded the Florida maps. They were about 100MB Only. I'm using a 1GB MEmorycard working perfectly fine. Hope this helps.

Have a great day =)

PS: Oh I almost forgot. When you install mapinstall, it will ask you to enter a map code to unlock the map. You need to have that code.

Miguel.

Also, how do I set it to COM 4? It sits and scans for a GPS device but it never finds one. Both google maps and GPSTest find it as well as like 6 satellites.

Nevermind this question. It did that because I accidentally deleted the SW.UNL file (which contains the activation code to make the software work) when I was trying to shrink the maps file down to an acceptable size. (I still can't figure that out by the way.)

Do you have the city navigator north america 2008 NT??? if you do you have to install the softwares that come with it. One of them is called Map Install (this is what you are looking for to install certain areas in your cellphone). Let me know if you need more assistance =)

I do. I have MapSource open and unlocked, I selected all of California, but I don't know how to put it on my memory card.

The reason you cant use the internal GPS is because you need a device I.D unlock code for Garmin. Garmin is normally locked to the bluetooth device it came with...i.e Garmin 10 normally uses a bluetooth reciever from Garmin. Garmin 20 comes with a device unlock code so that you have other options in the settings under "remote GPS".....to use your own hardware such as internal GPS. If unlocked you would have the option to use the windows intermediate driver. Then you could fire up GPStest shortcut to get a lock and then open Garmin at the same time. No hacks required at all. The intermediate driver is included in the ROM but the GUI is missing, yet available here on these forums...but only the driver is required for use in Garmin.

I think another user "thelostsoul" mentioned it works if you buy the unlock code....presumably from Garmin.

Mapsource will create a map for you and unlock it if you have the original code that came with the map....otherwise Garmin will reject the map saying "cannot unlock map with device code ********". This error is generated by the mismatching of device and map I.D's....

I am assuming that you would supply Garmin with the map I.D and they would supply you with a matching device I.D......

You need n SW.UNL file to unlock the internal gps...

What version of Garmin did you purchase...Did it come with an external device (bluetooth GPS) and a memory card ?

Have you tried Garmin? A simple google gives that as the first result....

At Fry's you can get a 2GB card for around $15. The best way to get it to fit is spending the $15 on a new card.

Like someone mentioned above. Go to Map Install and pick the maps you want. Then when you go to install them it will ask you what device. Make sure you're Synced or have the Micro SD Loaded directly to your comp with an adapter. It will recognize that you have Garmin Mobile XT on the drop down menu. Make sure your Garmin Mobile XT is Updated.
