Activesync Problem with Vista

I have an Orange M700 and when i sync it with my laptop running XP and Activesync 4.5 i have no problem. However as soon as I connect top my desktop running Vista and MDC 6.1 it changes my device name to WINDOWSMOBILEXXX (X being a number) and syncs. Consequently on my return to the laptop it does nothing ... looks for changes says it is syncing and then sits there going nowhere. I have had to hard reset once and do a complete restore from backup once to get things working again. I am now scared to sync with my desktop for fear it may happen again.

Would appreciate any help you can give as I need to be able to keep both machines up to date

I've had issues syncing with vista.. in the end I figured out that it was windows defender firewall (or whatever the windows firewall is called) that was blocking all sync attempts. I also unticked in the PPC "enable advanced network functionality"

Start->connections->USB to PC->untick enable advanced network functionality

Unfortunately the problem isnt syncing with vista. More that Vista seems to rename the device and stop me syncing back with my xp machine. Even changing the device ID back doesn't seem to work

Vista uses Mobile Device Centre which seems to want to rename your device. I would suggest that you let it sync with Vista and rename, delete your partnership with Activesync on your laptop, and create a new partnership with the 'Vista' device name. It should always work from there on without a problem.

The simplest solution always works. I was always starting with the laptop and then the vista pc. Anyway tried your solution and it seemed to be working. Many thanks :)

That's wank! Why should we put up with that. We don't want Active Sync coming up with WINDOWSMOBILE075 or whatever it gives us! Microsoft should get their act together. I've had the same problem, and I just won't bother synching with my Vista laptop. It's not worth the hassle.
