Guest Monolithix Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 O2 have launched the Orbit 2, a successor to the original Orbit (otherwise known as the HTC Artemis). This time round the Orbit 2 is based on HTC's Polaris, which includes the sexy Touchflo interface. Here's the spec rundown:256/128 ROM/RAM microSDHC Wifi/Bluetooth/GPS Copilot 7 included(!) 3Mpix Camera Quad-band GSM+EDGE/Tri-band UMTS+HSDPA 2.8" qVGA ScreenA nice (identical?) alternative to the HTC Touch Cruise and a nod to O2 for including Copilot in the bundle! I thought the Orbit2 WAS the Touch Cruise - if not, what's the difference between that and the Polaris? HTC aren't giving their phones two names internally now are they? Looking it at google - it seems as if Polaris was an earlier name for the same phone pre-release (for however that might be defined in HTC's OEM world!) Just got my Kaiser and wondering if it's the phone for me or if I should return it and hang on till this comes out on T-Mobile. Hell, throw the Asus Galaxy Mini into the mix and it looks awfully crowded section of the WM market...
Guest Monolithix Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Ah, seems you're right! I hadn't realised the Polaris became the Cruise, the Orbit 2 is a prettier device though! The Galaxy Mini looks great, shame theres no 3G though...
Guest Appetite4 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 I have just obtained a sim for my Touch Cruise from O2. I allowed the Cruise to configure itself for O2. Although it says it is connecting to HSDPA and I am in a 'good' HSDPA coverage area according to O2's own coverage map I am only able to get 120kbps data transfers. (Using dslreports/mspeed). By comparison the same handset was achieving 500-600kbps with Tmob (and I was unhappy that Tmob seem unable to improve on that since I used to get over 1mb when I first had the contract on a Vario II). Calls to O2 have so far met with:- "we have no HSDPSA/3.5G network" "we do have the network but it must be congested in your area" (S London) "we do have the network but none of our sims are compatible with it yet" Does anyone with an Orbit 2 (or a Stellar for that matter) have any suggestions/advise on how to get HSDPA speeds out of O2? ...or a complaints phone number since they are only able to offer me a snail mail address. Thanks Paul.
