OK, so this falls under the category of 'could be risky' as well as 'definitely unauthorised' and 'will be made available officially soon', but also under 'very cool' :) If you have a HTC Titan based device on Alltel, Sprint, Verizon, Bell or Telus... with a bit of flashing jiggery-pokery you can enable the internal 'GPSone' GPS!

The process is posted here at 'phonenews.com', and involves CID unlocking your device and flashing a customised radio. Says Phonenews...

"Installing this update will enable GPS to function inside your HTC Titan. It enables the gpsOne chipset in your device to function as a standard GPS device, compatible with Windows Mobile 5 & 6 GPS applications, including Google Maps, Windows Live for Mobile, and navigation software such as TomTom Navigator. Keep in mind that gpsOne is not autonomous GPS, you will need to have home network coverage in order to maintain a GPS lock.

Also, keep in mind that this software is not supported by HTC. it is expected that carriers will be releasing this functionality in a future update. If you are not comfortable with this process, do not proceed. To maintain your warranty, you will need to remove this software (by restoring your device) before sending the device in for warranty service."

If GPS is important to you, then this may well be worth a shot.

Have you tried it? Let us know! :D

Any ideas whether this is also suitable for a UK MDA Vario II (T-Mobile) ?

So for this to work does it just need the radio on?....as with the kaiser or does it actually need a net connection?

Hi, everyone

Great post :)

My questions are: is this update only for the carriers: Alltel, Sprint, Verizon, Telus, and Bell?

i´m from portugal and my operator is vodafone, can i apply this update to my tytn?

Tks in advance.

The HTC Titan is a CDMA device, available mostly in the US and Canada. NOT a GSM device. Flashing your GSM device with a CDMA radio stack would completely and totally ruin, brick, destroy, and obliterate it. All the carriers listed in the first post carry the same device, the HTC Titan, just their own version of it. That's why you can flash this radio stack to it. Do NOT try to flash it to ANY other device. Alas, I traded in my Sprint Mogul (Sprint's version of the HTC Titan) for the Sprint Touch. And no GPS enabled radio stack has been released for the Touch yet. Yet.
