Item Deletion Not Syncing With Exchange Mailbox

I have Windows Mobile 6 Pro device (TyTN II) running in Direct Push mode (ActiveSync, "As Items Arrive" setting) against my Exchange Server 2003 mailbox.

I also access the same Exchange mailbox via Outlook on my laptop.

Direct Push is working fine for the most part -- new emails arrive instantly; Calendar and Contacts items are updated pretty much immediately in both directions, etc. And Read/Unread status on e-mails is being updated correctly in both directions.

What is NOT working properly is that when I delete an email from, say, my Inbox on my mobile device, it remains in my Inbox in Outlook. Not only for a few minutes, but until I delete it in Outlook. The same problem exists in the other direction -- if I delete an email in Outlook, it doesn't get deleted automatically on my phone. I've tried all three settings on the device for deleted items ("Immediately"; "On Connect/Disconnect"; or "Manually") but it makes no difference.

This wasn't always like this -- deletions used to be synched just like everything else, which is of course the way it should be. But somewhere along the line, something seems to have gone wrong... Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?

I've noticed this too, when you delete an email the updated state isn't instantaneously "pushed" to the server, it seems to catch up when a new mail drops through though (eg a sync is triggered)?

As Mono says, it will sync the change next time it syncs, but I think that MS have set it not to treat deletion (or even "read") as a direct push sync trigger, probably to save data and battery.

If you are really bothered by it, the work around is to do a manual send/receive on device (or laptop if applicable) to push the change up to the server. That will then be replicated on the other device.

Considering direct push is only for when you are out and about, I dont mind this behaviour.

It didn't do that, however. It didn't even catch up when a full manual sync was done. I finally just deleted the entire relationship, and recreated it. It works now, updating deletions and read/unread status next time an email comes in. That is satisfactory.

Odd, must have been a glitch :/ Glad you got it sorted now!
