Gmail IMAP + Labels not working

Hey folks, just got a touch dual, but run into a spot of bother. Try as I might, I can't get gmail imap set up correctly, I've followed the settings configuration to the letter on the gmail site, but whenever I send/receive only items in my inbox are downloaded.

Any mails that I've set via filters to skip the inbox and have labels applied to them won't show up on my device (it detects the various labels and creates suitable folders, but nothing ever downloads to them)

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

EDIT:

Problem solved :), just found out that I needed to go to Menu->Tools->Manage Folders and then manually select the folders that I want send/receive to download messages from. I do feel that this could be pointed out on the gmail site I've indicated above.

...along similar lines, how would I set up the device so that if I delete items it moves them to the gmail bin?
