Guest crazyc Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Have finally got my stellar and jumped ship to O2, and have been playing with it while I wait for my old number to port over. I do have afew questions tho: 1. I get the H for HSDPA almost all the time, even when not transferring data. This is different to previously, when the H only appeared when actually downloading. 2. Having said that, I get nowhere near HSDPA speeds. Have phoned CS and they tell me there is nothing else on the account that needs to be activated. ?? I am in a very good signal area. 3. The man in the shop told me that the 200mb FUP is no longer in place. It is extremely unclear to me what they define as "Excessive use" to - any ideas?
Guest hotphil Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 My HSDPA speeds vary wildly. I don't think it ever "gets going" with only small files and obviously the speed of the server that files are being downloaded from will play a part. What sort of speeds are you getting? And perhaps more importantly, how are you measuring it?
Guest jimbouk Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Some networks tweak the rom to show H whenever you have a 3g signal. Can't advise what O2#s speeds are like though.
Guest Appetite4 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Apologies to site moderators for "double" posting but have just seen this related thread and hoped it might attract some help..... I have just obtained a sim for my Touch Cruise from O2. I allowed the Cruise to configure itself for O2. Although it says it is connecting to HSDPA and I am in a 'good' HSDPA coverage area according to O2's own coverage map I am only able to get 120kbps data transfers. (Using dslreports/mspeed). By comparison the same handset was achieving 500-600kbps with Tmob (and I was unhappy that Tmob seem unable to improve on that since I used to get over 1mb when I first had the contract on a Vario II). Calls to O2 have so far met with:- "we have no HSDPSA/3.5G network" "we do have the network but it must be congested in your area" (S London) "we do have the network but none of our sims are compatible with it yet" Does anyone with an Orbit 2 (or a Stellar for that matter) have any suggestions/advise on how to get HSDPA speeds out of O2? Thanks Paul.

Yeah, sounds like the kinda crap that O2 would come out with; only reason I didn't leave them sooner was that my contract was quite cheap (a very old one) and I wasn't too fussed about data rates since I only had a phone with GPRS. In this day and age, they need to learn that they need to catch up; they weren't willing to do anything to keep me as a customer, so I left (especially pissed off since they didn't tell me about the charging for 0845 numbers thing) so I took my business with T-mobile, which has been more than excellent the whole time. Excellent HSPDA speeds, out of the box, and all the other people with the Vario will confirm that. So my best advice to get speed out of o2? Speed towards T-mobile (presuming you can receive them in your area; sorry if you can't!)
