Hello All!!!

I have a Blackjack II on the AT&T network through my work. I've seen a lot of posts concerning "unlocking" phones and I was wondering what repercussions, if any, I might encounter from doing this.

Probably first I should ask just exactly what "unlocking" does. Will it cause a problem when the phone is returned (we switch phones about every two years)? As a business customer, we have data plans and messaging plans with the normal voice plan. Will "unlocking" a phone cause any problems with these plans?

Thanks for any and all help. I enjoy reading these forums and have picked up several useful tips already. Hopefully someday I can contribute back to the knowledgebase here.

If you're talking about SIM unlocking then that should cause no problems with either you work or your mobile providor. Your mobile providor should even be able to provide an unlock code for you, we have to do this sometimes when staff are going abroad for a few months.

If your talking about application unlocking then again, that shouldn't cause any problems although you're work place may have a policy about installing apps?

If you're talking about CID unlocking then you're probably looking to flash another ROM onto the device, this could void your warranty if its not an official ROM (but if its an official ROM then you wouldn't need to CID unlock it :) )

gr,

Thanks for replying.....the three types of unlocking you mentioned helped educate me. I'm figuring the application unlocking is what I want, because I want to download some of the software/tips I've read about on this web site. My company will not have an issue with it, and as long as AT&T won't void warranties, eyc. I'll probably give it a try.

No worries m8, App unlocking should not void your warranty.

Even if you do install some app that messes your phone up you can just hard reset back to factory settings and AT&T will be none the wiser.
