Guest chiefdave Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 i've been trying to get this to work for 2 days and it's driving me crazy! i've got outlook on my pc and i have work and home accounts both running on the same profile, both have mail, calander, contacts etc. The work account is exchange based and my own account is pop3 based with a pst file on the pc holding all the data. i want to synch the pop3 / pst as this has all my personal contacts in. So far it seems to default to the exchange account and not let me change to the other account. i can manually enter my pop3 details on the phone and get a second mailbox but that only goes out and gets new messages, what am i doing wrong???
Guest hotphil Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 If I read that right, do you need to sync to the PC running Outlook, change the sync options to sync Contacts with the PC rather than with the Exchange server?
Guest chiefdave Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 If I read that right, do you need to sync to the PC running Outlook, change the sync options to sync Contacts with the PC rather than with the Exchange server? that's right, i can get it to sync with the pc rather than the server however it always syncs with my work account on my pc (which is that exchange account) rather than my personal account so although it's not directly syncing with the exchange server it's still only giving me that account.
Guest jimbouk Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 The best workaround would be to set up a rule to move all your personal emails into subfolders in your mailbox and then set activesync to sync those folders. Best of all three worlds? You can of course set your personal email account up as a pop/imap account in the device and poll the server for new emails anyway.
Guest Confucious Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 If you want just email syncing with your exchange server and contacts with your PC just deselect contacts on your exchange settings and it will let you sync them with your PC.

Guest Confucious Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 On your phone, fire up Activesync and on the menu it will give you all the options you need.
Guest chiefdave Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 On your phone, fire up Activesync and on the menu it will give you all the options you need. i must be missing something really obvious but all i can see is an option to turn synch on or off for contacts, calander etc, i can't see anywhere that it will let me say which set of contacts i want to sych. at the moment i've got less control with the sych than i had on my k800i!!!!!

Best of all three worlds? can't do that as moving things into my mailbox would mean it was all sat on the company exchange server which is a big no no. You can of course set your personal email account up as a pop/imap account in the device and poll the server for new emails anyway. I've done that and it works fine, problem is I need it to sync as i need to reference some older emails when i'm away from the pc (which is pretty much the whole reason i got the new phone) i wouldn't have thought this was a particularly unusual thing to want to do but i'm getting the impression windows mobile is only really set up to work with exchange servers, if that's the case i guess i'd have to get something hooked up with a hosting company.
Guest Confucious Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 menu- options deselect everything you dont want from your exchange server and select on PC
Guest chiefdave Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 menu- options deselect everything you dont want from your exchange server and select on PC hmmm, it won't let me do that at all. i can deselect everything in activesync on the phone no problem however when i select on the pc it defaults to sync the mailbox folder in outlook which is the account linked to exchange server, the personal folders which is where i have my own stuff doesn't appear as an option anywhere. do i need to set something in outlook as mobile device centre doesn't have any option for selecting which outlook folders i want to sync
