Guest Mieklol Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I run Windows XP on my main desktop computer, which is a 2GB RAM, nVidia 8400GS, Intel P4 HT 3.00GHZ, 300GB HDD beauty, and it is by far my favourite version of Windows. So as you would expect, when I saw the EeePC and heard you could install XP on it, I was hooked and I deffinitely do plan to get one. But, in past experiments, Windows 2000 Professional does the following: Takes up less than 1/3 of the RAM that XP does Takes up less than 1/2 of the HDD space that XP does Uses FAR less processing power for applications And because it doesn't have all the new-fangled media and user centric services, wouldn't it be a far better idea to put the venerable Windows 2000 Pro on the EeePC? I know that's deffinitely what I am going to be doing when I get mine (hopefully a blue 4GB model...mmmm...)
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Assuming you can find device drivers. There is a lot of community support for lite installs of XP, and also tweaks etc for it. The only thing I found to eat lots of disk space was office 2007 ultimate, so I went back to Office 2003 Pro.
