Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Hi All, I really, really, really someone can help me out, because I am at my wits end. Over a year ago, I obtained a tune from the web, which I believe was .MP3 I have a Tytn II - great :) However, this .MP3 will NOT play... its as if the tune is muted, or muffled. I have tried various xxx to MP3 converts, and all have failed. Yet it works well on my PC. It currently believes its a .wma now. Is there anyone that could either help with this, or maybe I could email them the .mp3 file, to see if they can get it to work, or better still, identify what format it THINKS it is, and help me convert it! Sincerely thankful for any replies Simon P.S. I cannot unload.... not permitted :D But happy to email it to anyone for help.
Guest RickDawson Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 What application are you playing it with on your PC? Have you looked at the properties of the file in various applications? Do any other files work?
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 I have Vista, using Windows Media Player. Any other MP3 file works flawless - its just this one single tune that fails to work. On the PC it plays fine... Pocket PC... doesnt.... any other PC .... doesnt!
Guest RickDawson Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 can winamp play it? (www.winamp.com)
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Hi Rick Sadly not! Which sort of tells me its not an MP3. Even though it seems to think it is one. I do not know what file format this orignally was.
Guest Shuflie Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 There are free programs about that will allow you to record anything that you hear on your computer to an MP3, you may even have have something similar bundled with your sound card. If you don't have one installed try MP3myMp3 Recorder, I think I've used that one in the past, just play your mystery MP3 in media player and record it to a standard MP3 that your phone will play.
Guest RickDawson Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I'm guessing now, but I think it has some form of DRM. You could try changing the extension of the file from MP3 to WMA, and see what happens. get windows to show all known extensions (if you don't already have this enabled) and rename the file with another file extension.

Ok I downloaded the program, and installled it. I have the file playing in Windows MEdia player, adn I press the RECORD button on the MP3myMP3 player and after about 30 seconds I stop it. But when I goto play, it comes up saying "There is no recording yet to play". It also seems to happen on genuine MP3 formats too. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Also just realised, the RECORDING volume.... I can drap it along to a volume, but it stays back at 0 :-(
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Ok, well I think I have it in MP3 format - I changed the file format to .wav - used a program called FREE MP3 to WAV to MP3 converter, and it claims it is an MP3 However, copying the file onto the PPC Tytn II shows its an MP3, but when playing it, the song is still muffled and unrecognisable :)
Guest Kimbie Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Download a program called gspot, this will tell you what the audio file is coded in Kimbie
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Download a program called gspot, this will tell you what the audio file is coded in Kimbie Hi Kimbie, thanks. Ok I found the file, opened it up in GSpot and the details are shown below: MPEG Elementary Audio << {1 aud} Codec: MPEG-1 Layer 3 Info 44100Hz 128kb/s tot, stereo I compared this to another MP3, that plays on my phone and other computers and the codec for a coldplay song is MPEG-2 Layer3 Does this help?
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 bumping this up, because I am still completely stuck :D If it helps, I am happy to email the file to anyone who sends a PM, to see if: 1) they can play on their PC 2) try to decode or recode into the correct format Thank you Simon
Guest mandt Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Feel free to send it to me, as you already have my email address
Guest Sonicr360 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Thanks, even if you can play it, it will show I am not going mad !
Guest mandt Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 (edited) Ok quick reply from me as it's a bit late and my bed's calling. It plays fine on my PC, though the quality is awful, maybe as a result of your trans-coding exploits? I'll try it on a phone tomorrow (Fri) and report back What is it anyway? Edited February 29, 2008 by mandt
Guest mandt Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Tried it on my Touch, no-go :D Wierd
Guest therafiman Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 (edited) I don't see why if it can be played it can't be converted easily...
