Bluetooth headset only usable with phone functions?

This might be more of a general WM6 question but I've found that I can't use Skype on my v1615 along with a bluetooth headset.

I've paired it up with the phone and it works fine with the regular cellphone function but other apps just put the sound out through the internal speaker ... including Skype.

I was hopeing to be able to use bluetooth with Skype as I don't like that the Skype audio output doesn't come through the normal earpiece in the phone, which of course makes your conversation that bit less private (and more annoying to people around you). Is it the case that like the earpiece part of the mobile, bluetooth headsets are tied only to the cellphone functionality?

If your headset supports A2DP then in my experience all speaker audio gets routed through the bluetooth connection if the "Wireless Stereo" option is checked in the phone bluetooth partnership settings.

This can be an advantage or a nuisance - for example if (like me) you use the bluetooth headset to listen to music, then when driving of course all the audio including mission critical alerts such as Cameraware gets routed to the headset. I don't like driving with the earphone plugged in the whole time, so of course you don't hear these alerts! On the other hand the speaker is not very loud, so TomTom Navigator directions are more audible through an earpiece.

HTH!

Thanks - I think I see what's happening. Only the 'hands-free' function is available from the bluetooth config. Seems like WM6 will only use it in conjunction with the phone and not patch any other audio through to it.

That's a real pity as I can use the same headset with my old Nokia 6230 and all audio is routed to it - including mp3 playback.

What's more, if I hit the button on the headset to make a voice dial on the v1615 the currently playing audio is briefly patched through to the earpiece. So clearly it would be possible if the system was set up to allow it.

There are two apps around to do this, one runs on .NET and the other doesn't, i don't remember their names though. Maybe BTAudio or Bluetooth Audio or something along those lines.

I've only tried one of them, and it routed the earpiece sound but still used the phone mic, which was useless. I think it may have been the .NET one. Maybe the other one's different - I've heard people use it with Skype.

There's no way to get WM6 to do this without extra software, the functionality just isn't there as standard for mono headsets.

Thanks, following your advice I did a little digging and found a bit of software called 'Bluemusic' Bluemusic

It has a demo mode so I'll try evaluating it. Seems to do what I want from the docs, just a pity that WM6 doesn't do this sort of thing as standard.
