verizon fios router

well ive had my wireless router for about 8 months now nd the shadow for 3 months but im not able to connect to the wireless from the router that was provided by verizon can some 1 help me change the settings so that it would work with da shadow,nd also i have a ipod touch nd i cant connect to the router with it neither.....the router is from actiontec nd on the router says "important note:the verizon supplied router is designed specifically for use with the verizon fios network.use of other routers may impact the performance of your fios sevices" please give me any tips or ANYTHING that might help.
