Guest kjt57 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I have been using the GPS on my tytn2 for the last two months with no problems. Over the last few days I am having real trouble with it. I use Tomtom 6 and the latest version of Cameraware. Friday it started playing up, with Cameraware it would work then go blank on one occasion it said I was doing 135mph parked in a ar park. Then I was getting the message No Fix. Tomtom could not get a fix either. Saturday I went to london, Cameraware worked fine all morning, but on the return trip I had same problem, at one time doing 330 in a 30 limit... Sunday and today neither program will work. will not get a fix. I have not changed any settings, but seems to have been playing up since updating Cameraware. Any advice would be appreciated.
Guest Neil5459 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 It may be worth downloading something like Visual GPS to see which satellites are in view; I'm not sure but it may have an option to reinitialise the GPS receiver. Part of the problem is that if an erroneous location is entered into the GPS cache, it isn't cleared after a reset (soft, or hard) as it's kept within the chip itself; you need a way to flush the GPS info and download new info. QuickGPS may be a culprit in this as an erroneous ccell location can upset the GPS location
Guest Nucksta Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) What version of tomtom 6 are you running? What is the firmware on your device? Had you recently installled any updates/new software prior to problem? Edited March 3, 2008 by Nucksta
Guest kjt57 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I have tried several soft resets, i want to avoid a hard reset if i can. I have also run Quick GPS several times. I am running version 6.030 of TomTom. Tonight I tried TomTom again, it came up with the map telling me my present location was Mael-Pestivien then it was Peumerit Quintin....... On TomTom if I Go into GPS Status It seems like it will only pick up one satalite sometimes two.
Guest Nucksta Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 After reading link applicable to this http://www.modaco.com/content-page/264125/...20/#entry881579 Have you tried uninstalling camera aware and running purely on tomtom? Including not using quick gps If on your unit if you can see gps settings what are they set to? eg programs> GPS Program port? Hardware> what port and baud rate Access> is this being automatically (if applicable) At present I have a sneaky feeling the latest Cameraware may be the culprit. What rom are you running out of curiosity?

It is the standard rom installed on the Orange Tytn2. Gps was all working fine until a few days ago......

Guest Neil5459 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 If TomTom is showing anything in the GPS screen, then the settings are correct. The front screen should say 'No Valid GPS Data' or similar, rather than 'No GPS Device Detected' Using TTN exclusively and still not showing an accurate position means, as I mentioned above, that it is the GPS data that is corrupt. This is likely due to QuickGPS seeding incorrect information. You really need to find a way to repopulate the GPS receiver cache with valid data (and a soft or hard reset of the device WON'T achieve that); this means finding an applcation that will cold start the GPS Receiver, or else take the device outside with a clear view of the sky, run any GPS software so the receiver starts, and leave it on for about 15-20 minutes so the whole cache is rewritten.

Guest Neil5459 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 :D :( Good luck. Hope it doesn't rain !
Guest kjt57 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 :( :D Good luck. Hope it doesn't rain ! Left running with TomTom outside from 11:00 to 15:00... Now showing the correct location :( Picking up 6 satelites outside, 3 in the house. Hope it stays like it. Thanks for the advise Neil5459 and others :(
Guest Neil5459 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Hope it continues to work :D I'd suggest not using QuickGPS for a while, in case it's the cell info that's wrong. Set it to only download manually, so it doesn't kick in when ActiveSync is connected.

Went out in the car this afternoon, showing me back in spain... :D Probably my fault, I plugged phone into PC to update my appointments but forgot I had Quick GPS set to "Autodownload when connected to PC" Have now disabled this and will try outside tomorrow. Cant do it now its raining.... :(
Guest Neil5459 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Yes- its worth another try. If that doesn't work, or if it goes AWOL again, it's starting to look like a hardware problem with the GPS receiver.

Made sure I disabled Quick GPS,and Left running with TomTom for a couple of hours while I was In a meeting.. Correct location again, and has been working OK all day. Will forget Quick GPS and hope it keeps woring Ok :D
Guest Nucksta Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Glad to hear :D Everything still running fine?
Guest kjt57 Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Glad to hear :D Everything still running fine? Yes.. Still working fine, must have solved the problem. Thanks to all for the help :(
Guest techno28 Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 Yes.. Still working fine, must have solved the problem. Thanks to all for the help :D Hi, I've been hunting this problem down now for a couple of days - My TyTN2 has just started doing the "exact" same thing - I appear to be somewhere off the Irish West Coast doing anywhere between 0 and 270MPH. I used TomTom all last weekend whilst visiting the Lake District and it was fine. I came home and charged my phone via my pc connection and that's when it went "belly-up". This was not something new I'd done. It's been working fine for 4 months using QuickGPS via ActiveSync but I reckon, after reading this thread, QuickGPS needs disabled. My phone is sitting outside now - hoping it sorts itself out - I'm off on holiday soon and will need TomTom to find my way around Europe!!!!!! Will let you all know!!!!!! Here's hoping---------
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 QuickGPS really shouldn't break the GPS in that way, quite odd. Are you time zones / time / date etc. set right? P
