On the Garmin main screen (when you first launch the program) do you see the bars in the top left of the screen? Are they empty or green?

THE TOP WHERE THE BATT. AND SIGNAL ICONS ARE? NOTHING AT TOP EXCEPT GARMIN MOBILE XT. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN IT SAYS "SCANNING ATTACHED" I LET IT SIT IDLE LIKE THIS OUTSIDE IN CLEAR VIEW OF THE SKY FOR A WHILE. I HAD BEEN USING TELENAV SO I KNOW GPS WORKS. I DELETED THAT PROGRAM AND HAVE INSTALLED THE MODACO GPS UNLOCK. STILL NO PROGRESS, ANY THOUGHTS? THANK YOU FOR THE HELP.

Actually, the modaco hack should not be necessary for Garmin XT, at least not in the latest version.

Run Garmin, go to the GPS settings, and set it to use the Intermediate driver. If you installed the modaco hack, then either set it to COM4 or the intermediate driver. Both should work.

I had the exact same problem as you did... I couldn't figure out why GPS Test could acquire a signal but Garmin couldn't. Here's is what I did to mak it work. Run GPS Test and let is connect, then minimize it (do not close it out) and run Garmin. For some reason, I have to have GPS Test running first to have Garmin work. I can't complain about it seeing as I now have a phone that I don't have to pay extra for GPS and I downloaded Garmin for free off a torrent. So if it means that I have to run two progs instead of one to have it work for free... then free it is!

A hard reset should fix that. I had to do the same thing for a period of time until I hard reset, but if you're not willing to hard reset, then that would be your only option...
