Guest Mr Alom Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 :( Hi All, Does anyone know if there's a way to have the devices lock/unlock option onto my Kaiser soft key? I've tried going into the softkey option from setting>personal but it doesn't list the lock/unlock device option. This will be useful to me so I don't have to get my stylus out when driving and aim (which I'm not good at because of the car movement and keep opening up time and date menu by accident), into the today's screen plugin for device lock. :D

Guest Mr Alom Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 I just installed slide2unlock, and that seems like it would suit your needs. google it. Just downloaded S2U2 from xda-dev, will try and see how it looks. I'm just concern where it'll sit as I've got a lot of things on my today's screen including my agenda for the week. Thanks KevinAlbrecht. :D

And as I am sure you have found out, it actually lets you reclaim room on your today screen, by not having the 'Device locked' message. Seems pretty ok to me, although I am still getting used to the sideways gesture to unlock it. - Kevin

Guest shootydogthing Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 just hold the hang up key for a few seconds
Guest Mr Alom Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 just hold the hang up key for a few seconds :D :( Excellent!!! Thank you so much shootydogthing, I'll now remove S2U2 which I installed yesterday (takes a lot of battery and doesn't always work).
Guest KevinAlbrecht Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 just hold the hang up key for a few seconds That will not let you 'unlock' the phone, will it?
Guest shootydogthing Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 No problem, only here to help :D And then you just unlock with the softkey, and then a finger press. When theres just one button (and a pretty large one at that) on the screen it's not hard to hit.
Guest Mr Alom Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 UNLOCKING is not a problem for me when driving as you have a larger place to hit on the screen (as shootydogthing explained). Thanks.
Guest Mr Alom Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Noticed another way, by pressing down using your d-pad and then press select when lock/unlock option is highlighted. :D
Guest shootydogthing Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 BUT if you use the end key the a) you don't need to worry about pressing too many or too few times, and :D you can free up the space for something else
Guest Mr Alom Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 BUT if you use the end key the a) you don't need to worry about pressing too many or too few times, and :D you can free up the space for something else Just done that, removed the lock/unlock plugin off my today's screen, left with more space for my monthly agenda. Thanks mate.
Guest lozzd Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 I had S2U2 installed for a couple of days - not sure but it seemed to batter my battery life - anyone else have the same experience? Sf Yep. had it installed for a couple of months, couldn't work out what was eating all my battery/RAM. Turns out it was S2U2. Goodbye! Can't say I've missed it all that much either, I just use a very handy small app which you can bind to any softkey that powers off the phone and locks the keypad (like pressing the "Keypad Unlocked" on the Today screen.

Thanks mate. no problem mate, we're all here to help each other. And Lozzd, the hang up key is your friend. although admittedly it does require holding for a few seconds, perhaps you don't want to have to do this?although it is harder to hit accidentally, and it does work no matter what program you're in (at least all the ones i've tested it in)
Guest lozzd Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 shootydogthing, a few seconds is too long, and doesn't shut off the screen anyway ( e.g. this new softkey works in any app, i have put it on a nice easy button to press, and it locks the keypad and turns the screen off. )

I'm not going to argue over this.
Guest lozzd Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Sorry, I wasn't trying to argue :D I just thought I'd point out that I love my solution, heh. Its definitely each to their own.. thats why these devices are so great.

Guest mandt Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I beleive lozzd is referring to VJDeviceLock Incedentally I still use S2U2, albeit an older version (0.6) whch for me is extremely stable, and has all the features I want, ie a lock, and nothing more

Its definitely each to their own.. thats why these devices are so great. If only the world's religions would act like this... I still wouldn't like having a softkey used for it the whole time whatever app I was in, but I can see why that would be good for some people
Guest lozzd Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Heh, yeah thats the app I use. In an ideal world, when you turned off the device it would always come back on locked, but that's that :D
