In-car music with HTC Vox/Orange e650

I have a rather cheap MP3 player which I have tried to use with an FM Transmitter but the results are not great. I was thinking of making a complete switch i.e.:

- Cassette with 3.5mm jack

- Orange e650 as MP3 player

- Mini-USB to 3.5mm converter

- Air vent mount

Do you have any experiences with such an arrangement?

Is there a way to charge the phone at the same time as play music through the mini-USB connection?

An alternative approach?

Any suggestions welcome.

I bought a mount for my Vox from Boxwave mounting kit. I also bought a splitter that charges and pulls the audio cable off from Expansys. I use a cassette audio adapter as you mentioned. I tried Fm and the FM band here in Toronto is too packed to be useable. I tried the Motorola T505. Good device if the FM band had any availability. Had to keep fussing with finding a new available channel as I was driving. I use a program called PocketPlayer Pocketplayer which has iPod like features. Sort by artist, almbum Genre, playlists etc. Works very well. It also lets you set the priority on the decoder so that it VERY rare that the audio get's interrupted. I still use the T505 to do audio calls and use the built in speaker that works quite well. My next thought is to replace the stereo in the car with BT streaming support. So far the devices that I have found have crappy mic's on them. I have an 8G Micro SD card that I bought from Expansys. Lots of storage!

Thanks for all the information and links - it has given me a few more ideas.
