Guest LeeJS Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 My Tytn II has developed an annoying slowdown over the last few days and it's getting on my wick. I have no applications running, 54Mb of storage memory and 52Mb of program memory and yet every key press takes at least 10 seconds to respond, screen redraws are a nightmare and answering the phone is impossible because it refuses to accept button presses in time. Clearly something is hogging the processor, but how can I find out what it is? Is there a WM equivalent of the windows Task manager that shows CPU and memory usage on the device in realtime? I'm loathe to do a hard reset because I really don't want the hassle of reinstalling everything again. Thanks for any assistance. Lee.
Guest Bainsyboy Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Just out of curiosity what network are you on, Im with orange and am now on my second tytn II, the phone seems to start the day ok but then just gets so unresponsive i have to reset it.
Guest LeeJS Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 T-Mob. I'm getting to the point now where I'm thinking of trying a hard reset anyway. May combine it with a 6.1 firmware upgrade so kill two birds with one stone. I've been deleting things all weekend to see if there's an offending app but so far nothing has made any difference. I also used a process manager but it showed nothing hogging cpu and no shortage of memory. Very annoying...
Guest mandt Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Your problem certainly isn't representative of the device, My VIII zips along pretty quickly with the standard ROM. I would HR and see if that helps, if not it may indicate a problem with the hardware

Bet you a fiver its something you've installed... or its too many apps left running in the background. There are plenty of task managers out there to check.

There are plenty of task managers out there to check. That was my initial thought and, as I said above, I used a task managaer to check for rogue running processes but there aren't any. I've deleted almost every app on the device and it's still slow. Once in an application, the UI is quite responsive, it's just that it takes an age to repond to button/key presses and screen refreshes. It seems to struggle paging in to memory. I'm wondering if it's not a problem with memory corruption. @mandt: It's not my experience with the unit either. I've had it for almost 7 months and it's been fine. One post on this board does not make someone a newb!
Guest mandt Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Whoa there!! never said you were, or treated you like one. Now lets all take a deep breath :D
Guest Bainsyboy Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 If i use the supplied task manager on the phone then it reports nothing is running, Iff however i use fizz monitor it will tell me that two programmes are running which it lists as being PHONE if i kill these then my phone plays up not recieving calls etc. Have you got rid off t mobile stuff ( read the thread I posted about tytn II bring pants ) theres some advice in there that suggested getting rid of all the orange stuff when hard resetting, so far this has seemed to make my phone more responsive and im not soft resetting it 3 or 4 times a day.

I already installed dot Fred's Task Manager and that showed nothing running. I just tried Fizz on the off chance and that shows nothing either. The unit worked fine for 7 months and started going slow in the last few weeks. I doubt very much if removing stock software is going to fix it.

One post on this board does not make someone a newb! I have found in the past that some apps simply corrupt some roms - probably adding rubbish to the registry. Even when not running the app in question, the device becomes really sluggish if you install the app - or in some cases if you install app A before app B, when it will work fine if you install app B first. I would hard reset at least - of not try flashing a better rom.
