Guest ewel Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I managed to connect my SP5 to my wireless router and I can see on both sides that the connection is there. It is a pity that when I hide the SSID I Have to manually force the phone to connect, but I can live with that inconvenience. Now the question is what can I do with it? I already knew that ActiveSync does not work woth wifi but I had hoped at least to browse the internet. However, I cannot get internet explorer to work with the wifi connection. When I open internet explorer I can hear the GPRS signalling on my speakers so the wifi connection is not used. I can see an option in internet explorer to choose a connection but do not see wifi listed there. I tried putting the phone in flight mode and then connecting wifi but it seems that when I connect wifi the flight mode is automatically switched off and then I have to manually reconnect. I get some message that I do not have a connection: "Cannot connect. Ensure that your phone is turned on and correctly configured, and that service is available, before trying again." I think the bit about the phone having to be turned on is hilarious. Meanwhile I have a nice blue icon next to my connection in the wi-fi settings. It seems that i-mate and MS are telling me "here is a wifi phone but you cannot connect over wifi because this is a phone". So what is wifi supposed to be used for, and how? Thanks in advance for your help!
Guest jimbouk Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Once you work out what you have done wrong, you will be delighted with wifi as it most certainly can access the web/email/msn etc. Either your wifi isnt connecting properly (ie you arent getting a valid IP address from the router - probably due to a WEP/WPA issue) or the wifi connection is not set to connect to "the internet".

Thanks, it was on private network so putting it on internet did the trick! Lovely, I'll be browsing and skyping on the sofa without a laptop!
