AT&T Branded i617, unlocked and on T-Mobile, USA.

These are the programs that I am running, all with no problems.

Callfirewall reject calls from certain people, send them a text. So if my ex calls, my phone doesn't ring, instead it sends her a text saying not to call me anymore :D

SMSBubbles Very nifty program, Text messages popup in a balloon on the screen with options to save or delete. Great if you are on the go, at work or driving. No need to go to your mailbox and look for the last one that came in and then read it.

PocketNesterPlus Nintendo emulator - Full screen and sound!

PicoDrive Sega Genesis emulator - Full Screen and Sound!

PocketSnes Super Nintendo Emulator - Full Screen and Sound, but runs slower with the sound on.

Various media I find that the best encoder is windows movie maker set at "video for pocket PC (full screen)"

These are the programs I want:

Blue tooth voice dialing Does anyone know of a free one that works with our phones?

Theme or wallpaper changer I think it would be way cool if my phone picked the next days theme for me while I was sleeping!

These are my next projects, I will update this list as I get them accomplished, with links to whatever tutorial or software that I use.*

Full debranding I want differant start up/shutdown animation and sounds. Also I dont want it saying AT&T on my windows ie; explorer

All sound to bluetooth I did this on my razr it was great. Movies and music to bluetooth headset instead of speaker.

Remove and Reorganize I don't want to have to sift through a bunch of programs I will never use to get to the stuff that I do.

*I have seen alot of tutorials on this forum that will help me with these, and I plan on checking em out but first I need to app unlock my phone.

So, there is what I got and what I want, let's here from some of you guys!

Ok so I have had lots of PM's asking how to do what I have done, so here is my full install from a fresh

format!

This will do everything to a Blackjack II that I ever needed ( except the one thing I am still trying to

figure out [all sound through bluetooth] hopefully will figure it out soon).

Hopefully it will help you along the way as well.

First I backed up all my data! Very important, I did it via my 2 gig microSD card, and then removed it prior

to my full format ( also called a hard reset ).

I think the best way to do this install is to copy all files to a folder on a SD cardthat way you can install

on the fly if you ever need without using a PC. This also bypasses having to delete your installation files

from your device after you install each cab. I will be assumming that you unzipped kutterpack.zip (found in

this post) to your phones sd card prior to following this tutorial.

You should also back up all your contacts to your PC using active sync!!!

I don't know what would happen if your battery died during a hard reset so make sure its charged.

Lastly, I am not responsible should anything go wrong during YOUR format or reinstall, all these steps worked

great for me, and thats all I can say.

1. Hard reset / Format.

Power down your phone.

Remove the microSD card ( just in case )

Power it on while holding ^ ( up ) on the scroll wheel as well as the end button. This will ask you if you

want to format your phone.

Say yes. Don't freak out if it takes a few minutes as this is normal

When finished your phone will look act and feel like the day it came out of the box.

2. Set your Theme. ( if you will be mimicking my phone [and you should cause my phone rocks]) go to

start>settings>display>home screen> and select

samsung simple

samsung green

default

never

done

done

done

go to your storage card and inside your kutterpack folder is a folder called themes. You can make your own

themes later, keeping the folders in this folder along with the one I provided, but this will give you a good

system to keep your themes organized.

Inside my theme folder ( called evil ) is EVIL-wallpaper.jpg click menu>set as>homescreen>done>done

Now copy the audiofiles in the folder to mydevice\aplication data\sounds

now you can browse to that folder and set those sounds as the appropriate ringers.

Do this in settings>sounds>ringtone

and setting>sounds>othersounds

now your desktop is all spooky like mine, but most importantly it is not all cluttered, and my pressing up

down right and left you can select alot of programs using samsungs little task bar that is right above the

windows task bar. Highlight the program or shortcut you want ( it will be in green ) and press the center

button on the wheel. I find this to be very clean and effeciant.

3. Turn of 3G to save Battery Life

Dial *#1546792*#

Hit 3

Then 5

Select GSM

Hit Done

Then end.

I use t-mobile so I always leave this next option off once I turn it off, but you may want to turn it off and

on depending on your usage.

4. Install tgetfile.spvarm ( just click it and install to device, ignore the warning message )

Without getting too technical I will just say this is a linker file, and you must install this before you

install any of the other programs.

***Steps 5 through 7 are installing programs in the folder "cabs" in kutterpack. After installing activate

them by clicking the appropriate icon in the start menu***

5.Install the CallFirewall cab

6.install the SMS Bubbles cab

7.Optional - install ( if you have it) microsoft voice command install it now. I aquired

Microsoft_Voice_Command_US_SP_1.60.CAB and it works great!

8. Install the Emulators from kutterpack>emulators

Lastly install your media files, as well as your roms in the emulators folders

tips and tricks:

If you are new to windows wm6 remember if your phone starts lagging, check your task manager, make sure you

dont have a bunch of programs running :D

1.If you go to media player options and uncheck pause media player while using another program ( under

options>playback ) you can use media player to play mp3's without having to have the screen up ( control it

from the samsung taskbar above the windows taskbar ). Also making a shortcut to your default music folder on

your microdisk and putting it in your My Documents folder in your device will make media player recognize

those songs for playlists, this works great if you have voice command and want to control your music via

bluetooth!

2.Lots of default applications, IE included seem to have no way of quitting out of

them.To close apps, hold down the home key for a couple seconds, and voila, you will

be presented with the task manager

3.

Shortcuts

Task Manager - Pressing and holding the Home button brings up the task manager

List of apps - Pressing and holding the jog dial brings up a list of apps

Quicklist - Pressing the power button brings up the quicklist

Voice Recorder - Press and hold the “volume up” button on the left side of the phone, near the top to bring

up the voice recorder

Custom - You can reassign the long press of the side Back button near the jog dial to open whatever app you

want (by default it opens the camera)

Lock the Keypad - Holding down the End Key also works, in addition to the keylock on the Power Button

Quicklist

Quick “Sleep Mode” - Holding down “mail” key in buttom right corner makes background light for display and

keys to turn off.¹

Quickly delete a URL - Hold the back button down and it will leave you with just http:// quickly enter the

symbol (characters on the top half of the keys) by holding down the according button.

²Fn Shortcuts

Fn + B = Bluetooth Toggle¹

Fn + C = Cingular Mall¹

Fn + M = Cingular Music¹

Fn + V = Cingular Video¹

You can make a shortcut to \windows\bandsel.exe and place it in your start menu to make this easier. look in your windows folder for bandsel.exe.

Um, I think youve got a blackjack 1? No side back button or scroll wheel on a bj2. And vol up no longer launches recorder on bj2.

Browsing shortcuts

T == Page Up (Works in IE)

V == Page Down (Works in IE)

Its 2 + 8 for pg up and pg down.

Besides those three things looks good.

Anybody know of geotagging photo app that works on the i617? Saw a video of the Nokia N95's geotagging ability and now I'm jealous.

Well guys I got 3 out of 4 things from my wish list accomplished.

I wanted all sound to my bluetooth. I couldnt force the blackjack2 to do it, so instead I picked up a stereo headset used for cheap. It is awesome. I can get everything through to my headset, in stereo, and it pauses if a call comes in.

The I got a 2 for 1 in my other two wishes. I wanted to change the order of my start menu progs and I also wanted to have a prog change my wallpaper for me on a set interval. This program does both! yay. Attached is the cab, enjoy.

I am still just waiting on my last one which was debranding, which suddenly doesnt seem so important.

New tutorial on the way, I will rewrite the od one and I promise to be more thorough ( the last one was thrown together in a hurry as a catch all to answer a bunch of PM's this next one I will take more time on, as well as make a more logical installation file )

Thanks to all that read and support my thread.

You can disable the startup and shutdown animation, and you can set IE to go to a different homepage other than ATT's MediaNet.

That's about as close to "de-branding" as it gets I think.

I was working on a custom animation for days but couldn't get it to work. Not sure why either. I had it completed and repackaged, but no luck getting it to actually run, so I gave up for now. Here's a copy/paste from the post I had going on it:

[Paste]

...the startup and shutdown animations are quite rediculous. The sounds are awful too, but are easy to replace (see my other post). If you've spent much time poking around the phone, these forums, or a registry editor, then you will know that the file which contains this goofy animation is OemAnimationsDll.dll

This is a Dynamic Link Library which windows will report as an "application extension". It is fairly large, at about 1.9 Mb. Now to open it up take a recource editor, and I'm using PE Explorer. Inside is 40 images. 20 for the startup and 20 for the shutdown, all in PNG format.

So far, I've openend it up and exported all the image files. Having experience with animations, I had no problem making a good looking animation to my liking. After backing up the original of course, I replaced the 20 startup and 20 shutdown images in the .dll file with PE Explorer. Then I recompiled it with PE Explorer, keeping the right filenames of course.

That's about as far as I can get. I've put it back on the phone, but it does nothing at either startup or shutdown. I know the filename is right. With the file in Windows, you can right click on properties and after a few more clicks it becomes clear that there is a Samsung security certificate installed on the original file... This is where I think the problem might be.

Obviously mine doesn't have the Samsung security certificate... but I was able to install one from the original, supposedly.

[edit] I put the factory AT&T animation back on it, and that works fine, so at least I know I didn't "break" anything.. [/edit]

I appreciate your reply. This is a fairly new phone I am sure that someone _will_ make the fix, and I bet you are on the right track with the certificate angle, it will probobly take a registry hack ( like custom xp startup screens ). Oh well if the fix does show up here or somewhere else and I find it you can bet it will be posted on this thread.
