i have just purchased a blackjack 2 and it will arrive in a few days, one feature im very cuirous about is wether video streaming will work. There is this program called orb that lets you stream your music videos and tuner card to other computers and mobile devices. if the device supports 3gp it should work, has anyone ever used orb or gotten it to work with the blackjack? i had a pearl for baout 2 minutes and it did not work on it. Thanks for anyone who has some input.

P.S. im new to the blackjack, but i have always loved tinkering and hacking my electronics (ipod psp treo etc) is there anything you would think i could have some fun with doing?

I use Orb with my blackjack 2. It senses your connection speed and compresses the video appropriately. If you have an edge connection it sends lower-quality (but still good looking) video than if you are on 3G. Pretty slick.

It's a cool app and allows you to watch live TV if you have a tuner as well as the movies on your hard drive.

I have had my BJ2 for a week now and here is a list of things I have it doing for me:

Unlocked and put it on t-mobile

optimized my battery life, I now get daaayz of standby time, used to be like 1 or two days

got picture messaging to work - that was a pain

Installed voice commander - I can issue my blackjack commands via bluetooth headset make calls, check battery level, check time date, play music and playlists

callfirewire If I dont want a certain number calling me ( or any amount of numbers ) my phone rejects it and sends them a "away" text message

nes snes and sega emulation all full screen w/ sound ( the snes lags with the sound on thoagh )

near dvd quality video

my texts dont go straight to the inbox, they pop up in a ballon on my screen for quick review

after some tinkering I founf the perfect skin and its preinstalled on the bj2: samsung simple ! it doesnt take up hardly any space makes my pc look like xp or vista, and I can navigate anywhere I need to right from the home screen

learned lots of usefull shortcuts ( for instance holding the home key down brings up the task mananger and lets you close things that dont close themselves ie; media player )

Any of these that you dont have going for you I will gladly tell you how I did it ( I learned most of it from this forum )

good luck and have fun!

Hey neckutter1...

If it's possible, I would appreciate it if you could help me figure these things out. The near dvd quality video is probably the most important.

Thanks

To get high quality video you just need to encode your videos into a sufficiently high quality bitrate. Use programs like DVDFab and Fairuse Wizard to rip from DVD into other compressed formats, like mp4, xvid/divx, etc. Use a resolution of 320x240, framerate of 24 or 30 (or "auto"), video bitrate of 512kbps and audio bitrate of 128kbps and you should be satisfied with the quality. Watch on TCPMP or divx player mobile. In my experience, Fairuse Wizard gives better looking video at the same settings, but sometimes has problems with audio sync (slightly out of sync audio) sometimes.

wow thanks alot guys, i was afriad orb wouldnt work. i baught an unlocked device and im going to use it with t-mobile edge, im glad to hear my tuner card will work with it, and it sounds like you have done alot of really cool stuff to your blackjack, reminds me of my pimped out ipod touch lol. Thanks for the inspiration ill be sure to look around these forums and do allot of that kinda stuff to it during easter break. Did you underclock the cpu for better battery life? i saw a file on a not so safe website that was supposed to be able to safely over and underclock your cpu, or set it to automaticly adjust to give you maximum cpu when you need it and slow it down when you dont to save battery power.

I have ImTOO converter to convert videos, but i'll give Fairuse a shot and see the difference. I use 300kbps video bitrate, but now that I know it's ok to use 512 i'll check out the difference in that too.

Thanks

Beleive it or not I get the best results using windows movie maker ( I am on xp sp2 ) using the stock settings for pocket pc ( not the full screen option that turns out choppy )

give it a try !

I have lots and lots of stuff like 3gp maker and imtoo ( I work on phones for a living ) but for my best results for my my BJ2 has just been windows movie maker

I took one of my home made movies ( I really ppologize for the content my movies are terrible ) and encoded it with wmm ( windows movie maker ) using the default setting for "video for pocket pc (218kbps)" and here it is. Grab it on your jack and tell me what the quality is like. it started out around 8 megs and went down to less then two so obviously the same size shrinkage would apply to a dvd sized movie

P.S. NO NEGATIVE POSTS ABOUT THE MOVIE ITSELF PLEASE! ME AND MY KID WORKED VERY HARD ON IT AND WE KNOW IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!

LOL

it says 9 downloads so its working for some people. and I just encode it in whatever format it chooses for that pocket pc option

neckutter, what did you do for optimizing battery life, the pop up text balloons, and

voice commander. I have voice commander, but right now I have it set to the MediaNet hard button, are you able to start voice commander via your bluetooth headset somehow? I have a Sony HBH-DS980

.

I used Orb on my HTC Wizard, it was ALRIGHT, nothing fancy. But it's AMAZING to sync up with my xbox 360.

Gonna try it on the BJII in a few.
