Guest zspdztzx Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Spectec released its Mini SD WiFi Card recently. Has anyone here tried this card with BlackJack II yet? If so, how it works? Thanks.
Guest Rob Halligan Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 MiniSD won't fit. BJII takes a MicroSD.
Guest who4096 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 There are microSD wifi cards available too (click here to see one.) Have thought about picking one up and trying it out. But if someone else on the forums has already tried it I would definitely like to hear what they thought of it.

It was announced in October of 2006, and the joke of a company that Spectec is, just keeps telling everyone that it will be released in a month (every month). Go ahead and send them an e-mail...I bet they say it will be released in May. And in May, it will be June... I don't think it's ever going to be released.

The main thing to keep in mind is Drivers. I remember doing some google searches and found that drivers were a main obstacle. The driver would have to be device-specific to the BJ. I suppose they could be written, but I have zero experience writting drivers so don't look at me. All I'm saying is, IF you found one, don't expect to open the package and put it in and have it work.
Guest MI 99XPL Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 (edited) As of March 14th, the Spectec microSD WiFi Card SDW-823 was still not available to buy..... Elite Electronix.com Edit 1: As of June 6th, 2008....still not available. Edited June 6, 2008 by MI 99XPL
Guest zspdztzx Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 As of March 14th, the Spectec microSD WiFi Card SDW-823 was still not available to buy..... Elite Electronix.com Just get in touch with Spectec people today and they say "I may take another 3 months for SDW-823 to get into the market." So, wait....... And it is still NOT SURE that whether BJ2 has a SDIO-enabled MircoSD slot or not...
Guest MI 99XPL Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Just wondering, has anybody found a external WiFi device that will work through Bluetooth? I know WiFi and Bluetooth are kind of competitors, but that could be a nice work around for now.
Guest dtphantom Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Looks like it's coming in July. http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/21/spectec...y-lose-in-july/ I would like to know whether it's going to have any on board storage.
Guest hagie92 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 hey yall, I talked to Justin Chen from Spectec today. He was skeptical about giving me any information...but i did get this out of him... "Im afraid, at this stage, I don't have an idea about when the microSD card will be ready to enter the retail market. We currently have the sample only but not yet in mass production. Allow me to inform you once available." Also, on Engaget...it does say June...I think its getting close!
Guest christophe75 Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 MiniSD won't fit. BJII takes a MicroSD. MiniSD to MicroSD adaptator exist. it's same than MicroSD to SD adaptator but smaller. So problem is not a fit problem. Problems come from compatibility and drivers.

Guest jscadet Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) Actually, there is an adapter on the market from SD to microSD format (http://www.ameri-rack.com/APA-TFC1m.html). You could get the SDIO compatible Spectec 821 wifi card and use this adapter to connect to the microSD port on the device. This should work (in theory), but I haven't been brave enough to try it out. If anyone has any experience with attempting something like this, let me know! MicroSD is physically smaller than MiniSD...No Mini to Micro adapters exist for this reason. Guest Sed8ed Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 (edited) Now that is something..... I originally wrote about making an SD adaptor for the BlackjackII ages ago....very nice to see that someone actually manufactures something I wanted to try out.....I took internal pictures and what not of the BJII and even found the necessary pinouts to convert the micro SD pinout to the SD pinout... Very nice....I could definitely mod my BJII to accomodate the SD card holder and just run the ribbon cable within the phone and hide the lot... Now.....How much and where do I pay!!! I'd get one purely for the SD adapter part....I've got some big SD cards here I could use even if the WiFi didnt work (dont we need drivers to make it work??) and is the BJII actually SDIO capable? This has never been answered properly and nobody has actually tested an SDIO device in there. The chipset the BJII is using does support SDIO but it remains to be seen if it works. I'd be quite happy to put my BJII up to be the bunny so to speak.... But the real professionals need to actually comment of the possibilites of it working....last time this was talked about it was sitting at a 5% chance. Apparently there is some Wifi files floating about in the BJII whether or not they could be used remains to be seen. Someone has to pay up to try it all out. Who's it gonna be....If I know the price for parts I'm in. I'll take dirty big photo's and blog the lot and if it fails I'd like to know why and how to maybe fix it... If someone here is savvy in the techno areas ( be able to get drivers working etc or figure out the failures) I'd also be prepared to donate to the cause... It's funny my original post regarding this subject had only about 3-4 replies yet 1,700+ views and nobody mentioned something like this and I wrote that back in Feb...how technology moves. Here's my original idea...this new piece of info jumps through all of that and leaves only money and the proabability as the final frontier... http://www.modaco.com/content/samsung-i617...d-to-sd-jumper/ Edited May 31, 2008 by Sed8ed
Guest jscadet Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 You have to contact the sales dept at ameri-rack (http://www.ameri-rack.com/APA-TFC1m.html), but I believe the cost is about $26 (I'm not sure about shipping). The cost of the spectec 821 ranges from $35 - $99 (I think). So, it is a bit of an up-front cost for an unknown result. Although I do see drivers for WM6 on the website, so???
