403 Forbidden

In order to get rid of the 403 Forbidden error (that forces you to restart the phone or turn on/off the Phone signal), I read that you need to change the IE connection settings to The Internet instead of WAP. When IE is under The Internet setting, IE and Opera work great. BUT, it causes Cellular Video and MediaNET to not work. I can live without MediaNET, but I would like to use CV occasionally... any ideas?

I am in the process of testing a couple possible fixes. I'll post if any are successful.

Make sure you deleted the ATT IMS connection though.

go to wireless manager - menu - "disconnect cellular data". usually it starts magically working again for me after that.

I know. Thats not what im asking... You can avoid the 404 problem all together by using the The Internet setting in IE. However, that causes CV to not work. Im wondering if there is another way to access CV.

there is not. cv/medianet in general only works through the ATT proxy...which you are bypassing when you tell IE to connect directly to the internet.

Alright thanks. I'd rather avoid the constant 404 problem, so I suppose it's worth it to sacrifice CV and MediaNET.

Try this:

Start - Settings - Connections - MediaNet

Go to the Username field, and delete it.

Go to the Password field and delete it.

So you should have this:

Connects to: The Internet

Access Point: wap.cingular

Username blank

Password blank

Auth type: CHAP

Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

IP Address blank

Also, the error should read 403 Forbidden. 404 is a Not Found error....

Anyway, post if you're still having problems. I've been working with these settings for a few days now without getting the error...make sure you leave IE set to "WAP Network."

Yep 403 - you're right.

I'll try those settings. What is that default password - I hate to clear it out in case I want to go back. And do those settings allow CV and MediaNET to work? That's what I'm after.

Yep, the strange thing is, those are the settings on ATT's website. The default user is [email protected] and CINGULAR1 is the pass, all caps. And yes, they do allow access to MediaNet and its various features...

I put in your settings.

Edit: Seems to be working fine so far.

I believe it does that for security. CINGULAR1 has been the password for as long as I can remember...

These are the exact settings I have been using and I still am bothered with the 403 Forbidden

Err, anyone else still getting it with the user/pass blank (note, this is blanking the user/pass on the connection, not the proxy)?

I'm trying something else, but its sortof a lesser quality work-around...if it seems to work though, I'll post...

Meh...sorry, finished that test and it created a new problem which I have no solution for...I'm gonna keep looking though and post if anything turns up...

I have done what sfleuriet says to do in the first post of this thread. It has been working fine for me this way. I dont use CV and MediaNET so I dont care if they work or not. To be honest with you I havent even checked to see if they are working. All I care is that I am not bothered with that 403 forbidden error.
