Just got my BJ2 back, had to send it in and get a new one right after I got it! Now that I finally have it and can play with it, I have been reading around here and there and have heard a few things, I would really like to know how to do these, so maybe someone can point me toward a thread for each one?

1) free gps, it seems google maps is the best bet here for free data gps. is there a thread on how to install and get it working?

2) data only messaging, I would like to be able to get on aim without using texts everytime and have heard there are programs for this, can someone point me towards it?

3) games, im a hardcore gamer and love any type of games, is there a thread all about games, or how/where to get mobile games as well as emulation?

4) ringtones, i havevnt messed around but is it as easy as making a ringtone on my computer and plugging in and uploading it to the bj2? i heard about some space limit also, so maybe someone cna show me how to get around that?

thanks alot everyone

Or maybe someone can get on aim/icq or something and I can ask questions..that would be great. If anyone is willing to help a newb who really wants to use his phone for other things besides calls.

For IM stuff use Palringo and join the 'MoDaCo' group. You'll find lots of members there, and can ask questions.

1. Google Maps is OK, but uses data which is NOT free! Try going to Google, then Maps on your device and you should get an option to download it. Search here for any issues with using it on a BJ2

2. Palringo is good, and free. Again, you will be using data which your network will charge you for. IM data usage is normally very light though.

3. If you get through a lot of games you might want to check out the Smartphone Freeware sites. For commercial apps try places like Handango (but avoid buying there, buy from the creator's site if at all possible)

4. Ringtones are simple. Find the sound you want (try MP3DirectCut to create 30 second samples from MP3 files) and put it in your My Documents folder. I think you can also store them in \Windows\Rings and \Application Data\Sounds. There may still be an issue using WAVs for ringtones. MP3 work, and WAVs work for Message Tones.

There's lots to learn/play with when you're first starting out, but all these answers are already on Modaco so have a search and you can save yourself some time in future. If you can't find your answer post a question, but then you have to wait for replies!

So Palringo is pure data? I have unlimited data so I need a all data message plan.

Yes, Palringo is only data. The ONLY application I know of that isn't is OZ Messenger, the one that the BJII comes with.

Also, for games, try smartgear from bitbanksoftware.com - it's an emulation that supports many systems, Gameboy, GameGear, Genesis and it doesn't cost much with free upgrades for life.

I was thinking about trying an NES and SNES emulator, is there a place to find them that has instructions?

SmartGear supports NES with SNES coming real soon. You can find it here or at bitbanksoftware.com.
