Guest dshap Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I have several contacts on my SIM card and several phone contacts that make up my entire contact list. My goal is to sync all of these to my computer, hard reset my phone/delete all contacts off my SIM, and then restore all the contacts back to my PHONE (none on SIM). I launched ActiveSync and chose to sync contacts and it said it did but when I launch outlook there are no contacts in the list. Can anyone please tell me what I need to do to accomplish my goal? Thanks so much.

Full Outlook 2007 I'm not really familiar with the program but I'm pretty sure there were no contacts after ActiveSync said it synced.
Guest dshap Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Full Outlook 2007 I'm not really familiar with the program but I'm pretty sure there were no contacts after ActiveSync said it synced. These are the steps I followed: I went to Control Panel -> Mail and created a new profile that did not have e-mail support I then plugged in my phone and created a new activesync partnership and set it to sync contacts. i clicked sync and it checked off "contacts" like it successfully synced them but then when I went into outlook i have an empty contact list
Guest jonathanbaker1 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Full Outlook 2007 I'm not really familiar with the program but I'm pretty sure there were no contacts after ActiveSync said it synced. Ok cool I have full Outlook 2007 too. I never tried it till now, but I figured it out. Here's what I did to make it work: 1.) Disconect your phone from the computer, but leave ActiveSync running 2.) (now ActiveSync should say "Not connected.") Now in ActiveSync go to File and click Delete Mobile Device Don't worry, It only deletes the relationship, it's totally safe.. Now it should say "Not Connected. No Partnerships" 3.) In Windows, start up your Outlook program. It has to be running the first time you start the relationship 4.) Re-Connect your phone to the computer, this will start the ActiveSync and in a few seconds it will begin the Sync Setup Wizard. From here you can check the boxes you want. Contacts, Calendar, whatever. 5.) Now it will be connected with a new relationship with Outlook 6.) Go to your Outlook window, and on the left towards the bottom you will see Contacs and there they are Some notes.. At first you will only see the contacs saved to your phone and not on your SIM Card, so you may only see a few in Outlook or none if ALL your contacts are on the SIM. I'm still trying to figure this one out... Obviously we want to edit the SIM contacts. AGGGGGHHH microsoft I love to hate you. Since AT&T or Microsoft decided NOT to include a SIMmanager in the Blackjack, I still have no ******* idea how to move contacts from the SIM to the phone and vice versa. There are some programs on the web that claim to be able to do this but I'm still looking for one that works and is free. I will report back if/when I find one.
Guest jonathanbaker1 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) UPDATE: Ok I figured out how to get all the SIM Contacts into Outlook. There is a free program you can put onto your phone, and when you run it it will convert you SIM contacts to Outloook. I will try attaching it below. Here's what I did. Follow the instructions above and have Outlook running and you phone connected with ActiveSync. Now download the little .CAB file below and put it on your phone withActiveSync's Explore function. You can just drag and drop it from your desktop! Now using the File explorer on your phone, find the .CAB file (might be in My Documents) and click on it. This will install the program to your phone. Now you will find the program on the phone in the Accessories folder under the Start menu. Run the program and click the right softkey Options. There is the command DoCopy! and in a few moments all of your SIM Contacts will show up in your Outlook window!!! Let me know if this works for ya! [EDIT] Verified works in Vista (Windows Mobile Device Center)!!! The steps to follow are practically identical. Keep in mind, the most important step seems to be having Outlook running when you first begin the partnership between your PC and phone!! If you have (like me) set up a partnership in Vista without the Outlook/Contacts box checked or did it incorrectly, then here is how to delete the partnership so you can set up a new one. With your phone disconnected, open up Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista. Move your mouse over "Mobile Device Settings" and the option will popup to "End a Partnership". Click this and select your partnership from the list (in case you have more than one mobile device) and end the partnership. Now with Outlook running, reconnect your device and make the new partnership the way you want. [/EDIT] [EDIT 2] Use the same methods explained above to install the .CAB program and it will work for Outlook in Vista. Verified :D [EDIT 3] After using the m2simcopy program, all your SIM contacts are essentially copied into your primary phone memory, thereby making the readable and syncable with Outlook. Obviously this poses a small issue when you go into your Contacts, since all you Contacts will display as duplicates from the SIM and phone. To display only your phone contacts, go to the Start menu > click Settings > click Phone > click All Calls > click Call Options > uncheck the box for "Show SIM Contacts" I will probably make a new forum post tomorrow with a complete walkthrough for XP and Vista... m2simcopy.cab Edited March 27, 2008 by jonathanbaker1

There, you will see the only command "DoCopy!", click it and in a few moments all of your SIM Contacts will show up in your Outlook window!!! This has to work.. I tried it on four computers, Twice on the same computer just to be sure, and on XP and VISTA twice!!!! Additional Instructions: Look in your phone contacts and you will notice that you have two of everything. No problem, just set your phone to display only your phone contacts and not SIM contacts. To do this: 11.) Click on Start, click Settings, click Phone, click All Calls, click Call Options, and in a moment uncheck the box "Show SIM Contacts" and click Done I don't know what else to tell you. I've tried this on every computer I own and works perfectly. I tried it in XP many times and Vista many times. m2simcopy.cab
Guest eman006 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Er.....could it be the below. I think that you would need to have a profile that has email support in order to create contacts? Not sure, but just trying to help. I'll leave the answers to those who know better than I do. These are the steps I followed: I went to Control Panel -> Mail and created a new profile that did not have e-mail support
