Guest chadnparadise Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I have had the BJ II for several months now and am very disappointed by the 2.0 camera. I have the camera(lens) out of my last Samsung D-807, 1.3 and very nice image capture. My question is, can I disassemble the BJII and take out the tiny camera and replace with one from the D807? I know they are not the same lens, but they look quite similiar with respects to dimension from images I have seen online. Anyone have input or insight on this subject? Has anyone upgraded their lens on a mobile device? Does anyone have pics of the ribbon connector for the lens of BJ II? Thanks, your help would be greatly appreciated. C.C.
Guest JeepinCalifornia Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 (edited) Have you tried adjusting the picture settings to a higher (Fine, Super Fine) quality? played with other settings? perhaps a second-party Picture/Camera program? I use the "Fine" setting and I'm satisfied enough considering it is a phone with a camera, and not a Digital Camera "proper." It's just one of those limitations I've come to accept with camera-phones... If I want good shots, I use the Sony digital. :D Edited March 30, 2008 by JeepinCalifornia
Guest jonathanbaker1 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 The BJII has a 2.0 megapixel camera with adjustable shooting sizes of: 1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480, 320x240, and 176x144. I think the camera is more than adequate for a cellphone camera, especially with easy adjustment of brightness and zoom, selectable grayscale/sepia/negative... And the frame-border effects had me laughing for a couple hours solid... me and my lady were laughing so hard we were crying. If you're bothered by the stupid sounds (as we all are) they are easy to disable. Look here in the forums, basically it involves replacing with blank .wav files. Replacing the camera may be easy or it may not be.. the camera in my 8125 just pops right off (plugs into the mainboard)... But that doesn't mean that the plug might not be proprietary, or that it might have a specific driver.. Just my thoughts. It's not gonna be a Nikon D60...

Your two main concerns are drivers and plugs. Chances are, neither will work right. Also, good luck with warranty after you attempt it though, especially if it breaks... Fact is, its a phone first, pda second, some other things third, then camera. I've always had crappy cameras on my phone - Moto V600 was VGA, and completely gridy images. My Cingular 3125 had a huge delay after pressing capture, and the colors were way too flushed.
Guest jonathanbaker1 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Fact is, its a phone first, pda second, some other things third, then camera. Exactly... One of my gripes with my 8125 was that it was so busy being all these other things that it was akward and poorly desinged in terms of a phone. On the other hand, the BJII is an excellent phone and moderate to great at other things.. Sad truth is, we're still years away from what we really want our mobile devices to do: 120gb hard drive, 10mp camera, full audio/video ports for our tv, blah blah blah. But, as we are :D, once we have all that then we'll find more to demand from our devices...
Guest chadnparadise Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Thanks for the excellent input from all. I had not considered the drivers and software for the camera. I will adjust my settings and accept the camera. This function is not critical with me, it's the phone I utilize most of all. Perhaps the new Samsung touchscreen coming will replace this by leaps and bounds. CH
Guest john redcorn Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) My own question I'll put in this thread. I'm ok with the image quality of what the camera puts out, if it's something still like a building or something. I can't seem to take pictures of living things at all. even the slightest movement gives a blurred tracered image. Any way to change some settings that'd help? Would 3rd party image capture programs like you guys are talking about do better? I know nothing of these, any names or websites? this is terrible because my real camera decided to quit the day I got this phone and it's all I have for now. and I have babies who need their pictures taken all the time! My nokia 6682 (though its only 1.3mp) does just fine taking pictures and "freezing" moving people or objects. It would actually do a pretty satisfactory job as being my primary (albeit temporary) camera. Edited April 9, 2008 by john redcorn
