Is There Such A Thing As (Hard Unlock (Permanent)

Okay Lets see if I can put my thoughts together here & in to words noless :D I have been watching several Ebay listings to see if I could grab one of these HOT phones, because from what I can tell, Everybody and their mother wants one. And very few of them are The HTC Kaiser, I have found more of the ATT Branded Version, either way many of the Ebay listings are spewing Tech info and that leads me to wonder what if anything they are saying is worth any merrit and if even they have the knownledge to be able to say what they are. I am pretty Tech Savy and very rarely do I really need a Manual and I can pretty much figure most things out on my own, but Im a Green Newbie when it comes to this product, Green as in more like a bright Fluorescent Green :(

Is there such a thing as stated in the Topic Title? And if so what if any benefit could there be as to a Software Unlock?

Also Has Win 6.1 come out of beta? Or am I really this far behind the time line for this Product?

Oh yeah, from what I have seen both on Ebay and when useing my good ole friend Google, it seems like many people and shops that are selling this product, are asking upwards to $800.00, but good god, is it really worth it? I know this product does a lot and in such a small package, But Geeze.

I could be wrong as it's not something I've tried, but I think you're looking for CID Unlock - a google should turn details up (or even a search for CID Unlock here). As I understand it, that unlocks the phone permanently to all networks.

Edit: try here http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Pr...ID-unlock-FREE/

If looking at the AT&T version (the "Tilt" I believe it's called), you may want to check it has the front-facing video camera - I'm sure I read that it was omitted from the AT&T branded Kaisers. You may not want to use it so it may not matter, but if you want to make face-to-face video calls you'll need it :D

Good Luck!

When it comes these types of phones / pocket PC's I need to learn my self a bit more. To be honest I don't even know what a CID Unlock is :D And with the Tech Spewing on Ebay, I just don't want to get Taken and end up with a High Priced useless Phone that looks like a Brick and just might as well use it as one. That is if I even buy it on Ebay? And you can do Face To Face Video Calls with it? :(

CID unlock is for installing different ROIMs (I believe it is Country ID) which is not, I believe what you're after. Add unlock is to unlock the software so you can install more things on it - usually just a simple registry change, but again, not, I believe, what you are after.

SIM unlock is unlocking the phone so you can use it on a different network - this, I believe, is what you are after.

As I don't have a Kaiser I don't know the answer but I'd be surprised if there wasn't but if the answer isn't here on MoDaCo try www.xda-developers.com in the kaiser section and you should find the answer.

Good luck!

LOL I just KNEW I'd misunderstood CID unlocking :D Thanks for the clarification.

I would guess the description of "hard unlocked" means "hardware unlocked?" i.e the handset is sim unlocked as it would be if you buy it direct from HTC rather than a carrier like orange and application unlocked to allow you to install any applications designed for a PPC but not signed with a trusted certificate. I've not heard the term before.

There is now a way to sim unlock a kaiser for free at XDA but for anyone trying it please read the associated thread as some people have encountered problems. It invloves a bit of messing around flashing a new rom etc so i'd use caution if you try and you've not played around with a handset's ROM before.

I have cid/app/sim-unlocked my Orange Htc Tytn2. As long as you read up and are comfortable with rom flashing, its quite easy and pretty rare for things to go wrong if you follow the precise instructions, so if you end up with a locked one, you can unlock it yourself.

There are always risks buying off ebay - but go for someone with a high enough feedback number and you should be ok.

Carrier ID.

Why not go through the carrier & get one?  Yes 800$ for the TYTN II is very steep in my book.  I wish i could afford that.  My work allows the purchase of phones at a discount, but last I checked ATT is selling their version for under 200 US dollars w/ contract.

Correct.. sorta.

$199 refurbished with contract. Click here to check it on the AT&T site. If you want the HTC version because everyone hates all the AT&T crap, don't worry too much, after you cid/app/sim unlock the ATT version then you can reflash with a clean release of Mindows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1 when it's out. Surprisingly, these HTCs are really easy to unlock compared to some of the last generation Nokias.

Likewise, if you wanna buy on ebay, rest assured that even a trained monkey can unlock the HTCs :D and like jimbouke said, if you mess it up, you can just start it over again no problems... And yes the unlocking is permanent.

bdaniel:

Thank you for clearing that up for me, I was not all to sure because I have never worked with or used anything like this before, I know way around a PC pretty good even built my last PC, But when it comes to these things Im lost and need to learn if Im going to start useing one, which would work great for me on a business end. And yeah i was poking around the XDA site a bit the other day, but if i need to use the info I will check it out.

jimbouk:

Yes I know just what you mean and for sure am doing so, and I think I could do a flashing as long as my fat fingers don't get in way, if I need to that is and with the right set of instructions.

shootydogthing:

Okay so If understand this right CID unlock is for the Carrier ID, and that would mean when making a call there is no Carrier ID sent out? Or that just means you have the option to enter the carrier of choice, IE; ATT, Tmobile.

KevinAlbrecht: & jonathanbaker1:

Well sadly to say, I no longer have that option. I jumped on the Razor2 V9 band wagon a little over 60 days ago, I have always been a Motorola person and never ever had a problem with the product line. So when I was able to upgrade from my old Razor V3 with the ATT upgrade pricing, I thought that I would be okay with the Razor2 V9, and for the most part it is okay, But it just is a little to small and is a pain typing in messages of any kind. And Im finding out that some of the docs on my home PC are needed when Im not home and well the Razor is just not up to the task, not to mention how small the text can get when in a message or just trying to use the wireless net. So if I want to get it From ATT, I would end up paying the $550.00 that they want for just the phone and im also finding out that even on Ebay or just searching the net Im really not finding it for much less than that anyhow. But Im not giving up yet, I just might get lucky :D

Also Correct me here anyone if im wrong. The HTC p4550 & HTC TyTn II & HTC Kaiser & ATT Tilt 8925, Are all the same unit for the most part, other than for the ATT Branding that is. Or is there any difference in the HTC models that I keep seeing.

Hello

no, it's not that.

CID unlock allow to flash ROM coming from an other carrier than the original one

examples, put an Orange ROM on an AT&T Tilt Phone, or an original HTC ROM on the Orange ROM

SIM unlocking allow to put any SIM card (orange AT&T or whatever) in a phone originaly restricted by a Carrier, when selling the phone with a contract.

SIM and CID unlock are 2 differents process and are not linked at all

ie: you can do only sim unlock to use at&t tilt with a vodaphone sim card, with the original ROM from at&t

and also you can do only cid unlock to use at&t tilt with HTC ROM, with the original sim from at&t

They are all the same, as I know, the only one with major difference is the AT&T, wich delivers a phone without front camera, only back one. so you can't make video calls face to face, as already said.

check out on this page: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser to have more details

hope this helps...
